Genes and DNA are highly complex science. In addition to those, there are macro human traits like muscle fiber make up, density of mitochondria, ability of glands to produce HGH and testosterone, etc. Certain traits cause some to be more prone to anemia, others to have smaller or larger stature. Some have larger lungs and hearts. Some have lower bone density. We even have different blood types. In nature, the fast cheetah gets the slow wildebeast, and their gene pool is stronger because of it. Humans have eliminated the predators and have bred slow, fat, stupid, etc. for 1000s of years now. These are biological facts. On Earth, the human race has great biodiversity. That translates to: Some people have great speed, others don't. Some have very good aerobic capacity, others don't. Some have the size and power required to be an NFL linebacker, others don't. You can train all you want, but these biological facts cannot be changed any more than the laws of physics can be changed. Don't get me wrong. Distance running is a largely aerobic activity and as far as athletic traits go, it is probably the MOST trainable trait. So training for distance running will take you far, but each body has limits. A world class 100m runner would never be a threat in a world class marathon because his biological make up is just not suited for it, no matter how dedicated and well trained he is. He is made of power muscle, not aerobic muscle and his muscles work best by a different fuel source than a distance runners muscles. Just as even a 4min miler has no chance of becoming a sub 10sec 100m runner. It has never happened and never will. Talent - it is your natural disposition. So that is the very basic science behind it. Now if you want to give a single anecdote like running a 7:50 mile to a 4:02 without any provable results, training, age, size, or health context and call it proof, great. But I'll believe the science.

one thing i don't understand is what in the world is a genetic lottery? exactly what is that? what does it consist of? what are those genes? and why are you so determined to believe in it?
