Actually he was 50 yards behind down the stretch, and was literally flying into the finish but just missed.

1978 might qualify too. He broke his arm playing football(not the day before as far as I know) and then won the state xc title while still wearing the cast. And in '78 I think casts were still plaster.

I believe Taylor broke 9, and was high 4:teens in the 1600, but that was when the 16, and 32 were the same day. These were state meet times, but he may have run faster during the season.

This kid is good, but lets hold off on the national hs record talk (3:53). Too bad WVU cut their mens program, with the way distance running has gotten better they might actually have fielded a team that could compete nationally. We know they have a good coach.

Hey Beckley..........Adkins did run the 1600 that day........Zishka was first in 4.09. Adkins second in 4.17.6 and 8 was third in 4.19.1 (Paul Johnson Cleveland hts.).......they ran that 8.49 later on........the greatest 2 mile i ever saw........zishka went to conglatulate adkins after loosing but adkins waved him off because of a shoving incident they has at a meet indoors.......
