I don't think we'll ever know why Sammy jumped. But I know what I'll choose to believe: that it wasn't suicide, at all, but was a man overcome with passion, hoping somehow to prevent his wife from leaving the compound, and, for a moment, forgetting that he was human and that humans can't fly. I think he thought he could, through sheer force of will, jump off that balcony and hit the ground running.

It sounds like the plot of Toni Morrison's SONG OF SOLOMON.

In any case, that's what I choose to believe.

I read the same and came to the same conclusion. Yes, he jumped to his death but probably accidental and not suicidal.

yeah, reading the article it just sounds like he misjudged how high the balcony was and took a bad fall on his head. Was his misjudgement due to being drunk? Who knows..

What if Sammy's wife (and watchman) got into a scuffle with him and hit him with something over the head...

To cover it up thinking he would survive, they threw him off the balcony and then called for help...Sammy dies at the hospital due to the combined injuries.

I see the pictures of his house and balcony, but I don't see how that balcony is 6 meters above the ground. Is there a balcony on a different side of the house?

truly atrocious. Not only was it in extremely poor taste, but it also wasn't even a little funny. Dumb concept, poorly written, and terrifically inappropriate.

I never disagreed. The issue was the initial reports of massive internal injuries being the cause of death rather than a head injury. I knew a guy who fell off a 10 foot ladder and hit his head and died. So now that it has been reported that he died from head injuries it makes a lot more sense.

One question I would like to ask here is how many people think Sammy a young Millionaire driving an expensive car, couldn't afford to take her lady friend to a nice hotel?

And remember we are talking about Nyahururu Kenya. If Sammy came in at 11 pm, where was the wife? In places like Nyahururu even men can't be walking out at night at that time. Normally Kenyan wives are home at that time, but in Sammy's case it is said that he came at home at 11 pm and the wife found them unexpectedly.

The thing that comes to mind here is that Sammy and Triza might have been seperated for a while. And when she had that Sammy is meeting a lady friend decided to sneak upon them.

Another speculation.

Always a tragedy when somebody dies like this, whatever caused it. I knew a guy that died falling off a truck, albeit moving, but the point is it doesn't have to be a very high fall to kill a person.

That article says Sammy planned to run the San Diego marathon later this month. That is in 3 weeks. This had not been reported. Perhaps they mean the half-marathon?

I wasn't sure where to discuss that so I just posted in this thread.

I knew a guy who died without falling at all, but I'm not sure how that sheds any light on the strange circumstances surrounding this death, which was initially reported as a suicide.

Why is everyone so quick to come up with conspiracy theories? Prefontaine got drunk and crashed his car into a wall. Sammy likely got drunk, was caught by his wife and locked in the room, thought he could jump down and made a horrible miscalculation. (Please note before making an argument out of this that when I say drunk I don't mean they were necessarily trashed, but their reflex were dulled enough that it had tragic consequences).

We may find it hard to believe that someone so god-like to us could die in such a mundane way, but it happens to normal people all the time. It dosen't make it any less tragic.

Why is it so hard to accept that the guy tried to jump and either misjudged the height, or possibly slipped and took a header on to the ground rather than land cat- like, on his feet?

People die or get crippled every day diving into shallow swimming pools, etc.. EVERYTHING doesnt have to be a big conspiracy.
