It appears that there is a movement in elite american distance running to race more often. Rupp ran that 5k a couple weeks back in the 13:20's and got his bell rung. He got right back on the horse and ran 13:11. What will happen if he runs another 5k soon?

Koech graduated from high school in 2007, so he is NOT 17. As some wrote, his 12:53 is a great performance regardless of his age, but Let’s Run should stop perpetuating the myth of Kenyan/Ethiopian teenagers not knowing their DOBs etc, as it is a very calculated way in which to get noticed … I am sure that 100% of the members of the Kenyan "junior” team are in fact NOT juniors. This dishonestly is bad for the sport, as it discourages non age-cheaters, I am sure that there are legitimate juniors who could win World Junior titles , but are forced, like Koech, to wait until their 20s to make a “junior” team.

Let's say the 17 year old kid Isaiah Koech is 30 for those who like that! The question is how many 30 years old 5k elites have ran 12:53!

It doesn't matter the age, that is still a great time no matter how you look at it!

And before you say someone is older, you better look at their records!

Isaiah Koech didn't just pop up from nowhere!

He was there in the Junior Olympics and his time wasn't a big deal then so no one cared about him!

And he was down with injuries for almost a year, before coming back to the scenes again!

So if he is 30, I am sure the junior Olympic members from his own country couldn't have kept quite about the fact based on the number of young Kenyans who want to be picked on the team!

Sorry that the best times always come from Africa as far as long and middle distance is concerned!
