Please, serious posts only. This is something I truly struggle with. I can't cope with the fact that I will never be a great runner because I just don't have the talent and genetics to do it. Renato Canova even says it. There are those who run 5k in 13:30, maybe even 13:20, or even 13:10. But for those who run 12:50 and under it takes a special kind of talent you had to be born with. It's something in your genetics at that point. It was said in the forum about the recent Spaniard female steeplechaser who got caught doping. There would not be any point for guys like Bekele, Shaheen, Gebre to dope because they are at level where that wouldn't help them. The ones who dope are the runners who have 13:30 5k ability but not the talent and genetics to run sub 13. so they dope. I would never think about doping. I would want to achieve my maximum performance naturally. But whats the point of running if I will never have the opportunity to run at that elite level just because of my personal talent and genetics holding me back. I have a strong passion for running. And work extremely hard. My best time is sub 31 for 10k and I'm a junior in college. I just want to be at the level Solinsky and those guys are at. But knowing its not possible kills me. I don't want to settle for the Brian Sell type guy who works hard and makes the olympic team but doesn't do anything at the olympics. I want to be the guy who wins the olympics. Why was I not blessed with the genetics and talent to achieve this? How do I cope with the fact that with the smartest training and best coaching I may only ever be a sub 14 minute 5k guy and sub 30 10k guy.
Of COURSE the best runners in the world dope. That is WHY they are the best runners. They have the best genetics, the best training and the best drugs.
As to you, not only are you not going to be the best runner in the world, you are also not going to be the best tennis player, best writer, best chess player, best boxer, etc.
Even for those who ARE, that reign is over very soon. Pete Sampras may have been the GOAT for a few years; then Roger Federer came along and made him look ho-hum.
So, WTF are you going to do to be happy in you OWN LIFE?
Obviously, judging yourself by external standards is the wrong idea.
