my high school girls have terrible distance runners for xc. however we have a good 4x8 in track. reason- soccer is the same time as xc. the girls are good, but will probably never train enough to reach their potential
Get those kids in shoes! More shoe charities. That'll soften 'em up.

Lets start with phys ed class:
instead of-
1. not having it at all
2. playing "games"
Have kids excercise-
swim
walk
jog
run
play sports that promote fitness
We cant control parents who let their kids eat McDonalds and let their kids sit in front of a TV, but we can get them to excercise in school.
In my school they wont let them sell candy bars as fund raisers BUT
they play horseshoes in gym class and wont give the XC coach (me) an assistant and I have 45 kids on the team.
Welfare parents need to make their kids run at least two miles a day to receive benefits.

So Americans would feel like legends winning Boston/NY in 2:09 like in the good old days. Until we are destroyed at the Olympics.
