I'm so sick and tired of Salazar's lies

he's been coaching rupp since he started basically, but I can't think of anyone else that you can fully credit great performances to other than Kara G. Adam G sucked, Ritz ran two good races a couple months after going to Alberto (with several years of Brad Hudson training under his belt)and he's basically been back in the injury spin cycle since then. Is there anyone else worth mentioning?

Rupp has performed well in so far as beating up on people at the college level, but thats what a stud like him should do. What has he done since leaving college?

I guess 20 miles at 2:07 pace isn't a good predictor of marathon performace, at least within a group of fast guys.

I, like many other marathoners, sometimes wish my marathon was 8 or 9 days before the race, because I ran great then.

Plus, did he get sucked into 4:40's early on?

He also might have known he was out of it at 18 and backed off.

I'm not sure if he was joking or what but that was a pretty darn good answer. Not that you actually had to do anything, just that those four runners are clearly more impressive than AlSal's runners.

And schumacher has been developing all of those athletes on his own for quite a long time (as opposed to AlSal with Dathan). Too bad we don't know more about Schumacher's training, do any of you have any info?? I know some but maybe some of you have good schumacher training info? Just curious.

Now I have to chime in....

Bairu dropped out of NYC so that's not a success.

Jäger has been injured for a while.

And let's not forget how many NCAA team titles he pissed away before he got lucky.

Schumaker is also 50/50 with the best of the best...

Can't have respect for coaches who have everything and screw half of it up.

no reason to think that he exaggerated his workout, since there was equal skepticism of his workout prior to world half, and he performed to expectations there.

Well, see, back in the spring there was this race out at Stanford that was set up to be an AR attempt by Rupp. It got a lot of hype, AlSal toyed with the idea of changing the venue multiple times because the weather wasn't going to be Rupp certified. The race goes off an what happens? Some fat white guy named Chris Solinsky runs 26:59 and absolutely shits on the field. He would go on to run faster than Ritz's former US record in the 5K (by then broken by Lagat) and 5 seconds faster than any of AlSal's athletes have ever run in the 3K (7:34 to Ritz's 7:39)

There's also this guy named Matt Tegenkamp who three years ago ran 8:07 for two miles and last summer ran 12:58 for 5K. He also finished .03 out of a bronze medal at WC's.

We can all agree that Tim Nelson is not even in the same ballpark as Ritz in terms of talent, correct? In fact, Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction would say, "it's not in the same league, it ain't even the same f***ing sport." Ritz beat Nelson by a whopping 2.5 minutes at NYC.

Shalane Flanagan just finished 2nd at NYC in her marathon debut. Kara's debut was faster, but only good for 3rd place in a similar field. Call it a draw.

And then, of course, there's this race

If you've forgotten about that, you either don't follow the sport or you're really, really dumb.

I do follow the sport, but not enough to be aware of who Jerry coaches. As you (or someone else here said) he seems to be pretty quiet about it and not always in the media like Salazar.

So I stand corrected. Jerry measures up and then some.

(To your distraction: OK, so Rupp is the ONE successful male athlete that Al Sal has worked with in the long term. But what did he do this summer? A oouple of DNFs and near-DFLs as soon as he stepped on the track with the big boys.)

I'll even give you Goucher (Kara, not Adam - Al Sal ruined Adam, as you know).

And STILL, Al Sal has no real record of PRODUCING quality marathoners on a consistent basis. I welcome you to argue otherwise.

Ritz is a 2:10-2:14 marathoner. That is the fact. At some stage the "what ifs" and "off days" have to cease. Stop trying to make it into more than it is. How many years have to pass by without substantial growth before the pursuit stops? He ran 2:14 in '06 and 2:12 in '10. Do the bloody math.

He is prone to injury, regardless of what Salazar says he is fixing. Stress fractures in the foot do not equal a good marathoner and his talent will go the way of the buffalo.

Pursue the 5, the 10, and chase the AR for the half. Leave it at that and be awesome.

What about Amy Yoder Begley? She turned her career around and started winning national championships with Salazar.

If it weren't for reports of 20 mile runs at 4:51 pace I'm sure everyone would be much quicker to just throw up their hands and say "Ritz isn't a marathoner". But there's no way you can run that fast for 20 miles without tapering and not at least be a very good marathoner. Not unless you're doing something really, really wrong.

Wake up buddy! Give credit where credit is due. Rupp ran 27:10 and was on pace to go sub-13:00 in Europe before getting tripped up. He also ran sub-13:10 once, maybe twice, so he definately had a successful 2010...
