Regardless of what happened, Mahon will deal with it with class, because he's one of the best people we have in this sport. Don't expect him to get into a spat about who left whom, because he's above all that.
Is there another coach in the US that's had such success at a variety of distances, from 800 through the 'thon? Just look at the improvement Pierce and Uceny have made the last two years.
I have heard from people in the know that Hall has had some nagging injuries for the past 2 years and others have posted that here. That can wear on a person and make them question their coaching and training. As an outsider, I certainly would question running 3 world class marathons in 1 year. That appears to have been the beginning of his issues. Then he continued to run 2/year with these nagging issues.
This year he ran the Tioga Pass run a week before Philly and then ran sub par in Philly and pulled out of Chicago. Either he or his coach should not have allowed that. There is a problem here that either he is not being reigned in by his coach/team OR he refuses to listen.
Unfortunately, 99.9% of the people talking on the message board don't really have any insider information about who made these decisions. The .1% are not giving details if they really are the .1%.
Time will tell if this is a good decision for his career. I hope it is.
BTW, Sara Hall has had a very good year in contrast to Ryan. I hope this works in her favor too, but she seems to be leaving a situation that has her on the upswing (after some longer term flatness).
I am looking forward to hearing what Mahon has to say. I don't believe for a second that the Halls were forced out but I am curious to hear what Mahon's response will be.. It should be very telling from it whether the split was amicable or not
The decisions that you are talking about are made by the agent and athlete. The coach does the best with the hand that he has been dealt.
Is there any reporter out there who can actually do the research, get the interviews, write up a decent story, and get it published in a paper/website/blog somewhere?
I'm not saying it's easy, or that there's money in it, but it would be nice to have someone actually reporting on T&F.

Ryan Hall may take a dump in any compression socks from his sponsor Asics or definitely if they come from MTC
all this thread is is supposition. Chances are however that Ryan did the leaving. His teammates who did bother to contact the "press" backed that up enough. Good luck to Ryan and good luck to the MTC remaining members. They have a good future with Cragg, Hastings, Baughs, Pierce, Pierce Uceny, and Patrick Smyth.
They probably could use another coach and a main sponsor though.
