Time racing is more significan than age. This is Sols third circuit in Europe. Rupps first. But yes, he's just shy of 1.5 years older than Rupp if you want to get detailed about age. Like I said it's more the time spent with high level racing opportunity. 5 years of college are worth less than one season in europe when it comes to this stuff.

As someone who has broken 14:00 and travels in the company of olympians, I can tell you that not a single one of us thinks he was not breaking 13. He was on 12:56 pace at 3K and he actually looked better at 3,900 (the last time they showed him). He was moving up the lead group and looked ready for a move. If you've seen Rupp race much at all you know when he's having a great one and when he's having a good one but is running stretched. This was a great one. It is actually possible to understand body language. Great runners are very able to do so. Hell we use it as an advantage in races when we see bad body language in other runners. Point is, he actually could have struggled in and fall off the pace he was clearly handling to not break 13:00. If had any amount of kick whatsoever it would have been 12:57-12:58.
No you can't guarantee it or put it in the books, but that doesn't mean that a good deal of us know it was about to happen. As has been mentioned before, any time Rupp has said his workouts are going great and he's ready for something he's gone and done it. This time we know he was gunning for 13:00, last time it was 27:13. You know what happened. There was a point in the middle where I might have doubted he was going to break 13:00 (the point where anyone running a hard 5K has a chance to crack), but not at 4000.
I don't know why I bother with this, it reminds me of the Wheating doesn't belong in the PRE mile thing and the predictions that had him at 3:5mid. Some people just aren't able to watch a runner and see the story that is clearly being told. They just can't believe something until its in a record book. And you know exactly what kind of runners they aspired to be with that kind of thinking.

Not exceptional? I suppose if the only proper use of the word exceptional is for all-time top 10 performances. I would beg to differ, as this was far from a time-trial with perfect pacing. That love is all earned,...btw Solinski has been off and on impressive over the last years until a few months ago,...Teg came ran well..but also inconsitently,...Wheating is stellar but even he has had subpar races according to his now very high standards.
It's not possible to bring worldclass results consistently,..there are too many factors,..Rupp's about perfect that's why he gets ripped soo much too...i think. People see him as a pampered Nike endorsed lab rat.

It was very clear about 10 minutes 02-04 seconds in the race Galen Rupp was attempting to move up thru the main pack. He had a small gap between himself and the main pack and within a few strides he closed that small gap and seem to run extremely close to 2 kenyans runners one who seem to be making a move for the outside and that's what started the collision.
Galen Rupp actually looked just as fresh as anyone in the race and may not have won but it appeared he could have finished THIS RACE easily top 5 or better! If he races smarter (stay out of trouble), have the same type of effort, good pacing sub 13 is money in the back with Galen!

I think the point is this is the level he is at, so how can that be exceptional. His 10,000 was exceptional because he had never put out something at that level (though it was within him).

you are correct but his name isn't Rupp.
Just watched the Stockholm 5000 video someone posted. On the last two laps Rupp can be seen walking down the back-stretch. Looked like he might have been stretching his back on one of the laps. Anyone seen a post race pic with scraped knees or other indication of a fall?

Solinsky was 7th at the US champs as a 23 year old, 5th at the olympic trials as a 24 year old, and 12th at the world championships as a 25 year old. I don't think you can compare that to Rupps resume as a 23 year old.
Wheating is just gradutating and didn't even come on until his soph year in college and is a mid distance guy so he is apples and oranges when compared to Rupp, Teg and Solinsky. But Wheating is very consistent, has excellent PR's and is racing great in Europe. He will likely do big things in international championships but as of now only has a semifinal at the olympics to his name.
It just is what it is, it's not about loving Rupp, it's about seeing clearly what people have or have not done.

Where do you think Rupp will be by his 4th summer? Keep bias out and be real. Not too easy to do when you already have marks of 4:02, sub 8:00, 13:37 and 29:09 as a teenager, and you race in college and not europe.

I doubt you are trying to say it didn't happen, but just emphasizing the justification? You don't have to be so sensative, I'm not against Solinsky for DNFing from heat stroke or whatever. Many runners DNF at some point and reason are usually legit. The point was to bring to light the double standard that Rupp gets. Guys were saying you can never every DNF, and that maybe Rupp was even scared to finish. What's funny is that if it was Rupp DNFing in the heat, you'd see people saying he is weak, can't handle the heat, or asking why it was only hot for him or some nonsense. Irony is Rupp made it well thru 10000 in Osaka and Beijing, but they'd still have said it.
Just pointing out the double standard, no need to defend his DNF. It happened for a reason, we all know that.
