As someone in the industry, the likelihood of Wheating signing with Puma is 0%. Puma has 95% pf their marketing budget tied up in Bolt's very large contract. Secondly, being a Duck and keeping Lanana as his coach, you can bet on the swoosh. Look for him to keep wearing green, with the OTC kit. That's as good as official.
Sorry to disappoint all you 'industry experts', but he has signed with PUMA. The news will be announced very shortly. His contract amount is enormous. PUMA is very serious about shifting the balance and wants the very best and most marketable track athletes wearing PUMA.
He'll be based in North County. Carlsbad or Leucadia.

I don't know what you have against his current situation but something is blinding you here. It IS WORKING, arguably better than anyone elses situation other than Rupps. Fleet, Centro, Acosta and Wheating are 4 of the top milers in the country and one of them is a college freshman. Add in a freshman who runs 1:46 for 800 and that is a damn impressive group. Centro was 5th at USAs in the 1500 and Acosta missed it by a hair only to have 3 strong 1500/mile races since then. You want him to leave a town of 5 or 6 3:36 or better 1500 guys and 3 or 4 1:46 or faster 800 guys to go to a town with 2 (one being Wheating)???
There is no doubt that Portland is 1st class and is working especially for long distance guys, but that by no means it works for everyone and especially 800/1500 guys. I mean, really, Wheatings results speak for themselves. He's beating some of the best milers in the world, just placed 4th in the fastest 1500 race in 4 years and you think he should go train with guys who can't break 3:35 (currently) for 1500 and won't even be doing 800/1500 workouts?
He wants to live in train on the beach in West L.A. Small town college is over. Small town Vermont is long over. L.A. is next for Wheating. He'll be with coached by Cook.
Not sure if this includes Wheating or not, but Puma is reaching out to several distance runners right now. Word is, they are planning something akin to Mammoth Lakes at a similar altitude...
Yes, they are planning a very angry group which will train in North Philly. Should easily rival Mammoth.
Ive heard Wheating say he wants to stay wit Vin for the time being. That may not last, but that is what he wants. Vin has also made clear on occasion that he 'works for the university of oregon, not nike'. Cook's group would have the best mix of training partners in terms of 800/1500. Cook has already coached 2 athletes to World/Olympic Medals. I personally think that would be the best option. He is a superstar in Eugene and will be just a regular guy waling down the street everywhere else in America.
Personally I would love to see him sign with someone other than Nike, or any of the Oregon stars; Centro, Hasay, AJ, Eaton, ect. It just seems so predestined that after college, they will sign with Nike, it would be cool for one to strike out on there own and say, that was the best for me in college, this is what is best for me professionally. Being the main figure in a company as opposed to one of many.

Vin doesn't stay very long with an organization, i.e. Dartmoth, Stanford, a small school as an administrator. He was doing well with Stanford but left anyway.
First of all Vin does not work for Nike. Wheating can have whoever he has coach him regardless of who he signs with.

For them to sign him would be a 100% reversal. But they have usain bolt so they have shown some wisdom.
A lot of times when their is smoke there is fire on the message boards. But at this point I would just as likely say someone is trolling the boards that he is signing with puma regardless if what is on the homepage. I should check ip addresses.
Signing him might be a good move for puma. Represent just a few athletes but the best. A lotof guys would likely consider puma gear for the first time.

Rowland has coached more than Symmonds. Jemma Simpson- 1:58 for 800 this year. Hayley Yelling- 2 time european xc champion. Chris Thompson- gone from 13:24/28high to 13:11/27:29
Don't forget Rowland won Olympic Broze in the steeple (8:07), as well as 3:34 for 1500. This guy would be a perfect transition for Wheating

Your wife should be fired if she is working on running footwear , the shoes are not very runable and as far as distance shoes go they suck.
Puma should put the money in product development and create a shoe that could be sold as running product run in by runners vs a athlete endorsement.
By most accounts the brand is athletic fashion with little respect or regard from any aspect of the athletic community.
