All Nike athletes that live in Oregon wear the OTC jersey. Nike is trying to brand "OTC" . Rupp does not train with OTC in Eugene at all.
There's OTC Portland and OTC Eugene. The Portland group like Rupp, Ritz, Webb, Begley and the Gouchers are OTC/Portland. They're all sponsored by Nike so you could say they're "Nike runners" or you could say they're "OTC/Portland runners" and both would be true.
If you were to say they're not OTC runners, though, you'd be wrong.

Who cares what the clock says, it wasn't even an interesting race to watch regardless. It's Rupp's choice how he chooses to run his races, but I don't have to be a fan of how he raced last night. As a fan, that type of thing rubs me the wrong way.

Ok, but you should still get over it and not bitch to the letsrun crowd about how he didn't make it "entertaining" enough. What was he supposed to do? What would've made it so much more exciting?
I hope AY-B and Sal feel great about sitting on a college athlete for the whole race. Tough guy stuff there.

Not really. This year's US finals for the 5k and 10k are like the NBA playoffs if most of the NBA teams who made playoffs just decided not to participate and the Lakers played the Memphis Grizzlies for the championship.
And if the Lakers decided to take it easy and only beat the Grizzlies with a three at the buzzer.
So disappointed with this race! Barely under 29:00 minutes, I'll be honest I can't run that fast, but this suppose to be the USA NATIONALS. Where are all the big names? Are they gearing up for something bigger and better then the USA Championships? It's sad. I would like to see everybody square off for just one race and prove once in for all, who is the best.
Watching the recap of the 10k and the announcers commented on Rupp's kick at the end of his race. Really a 58sec 400 to finish at 28:59. Not exactly sure, but didn't Solinsky run faster then that when he race his american record?

If your memory is more than a month long, you may recall that when TIME is of the essence, Rupp is not hesitant to take the pace. Nor was he critical of Solinsky for following until within kicking range.
Hey, no competitor owes anthing to anyone beyond employing the stategy that he thinks most likely to serve his goals.
You won't likely find anone in the fields griping about lack of "honest effort." But then, THEY know what they're talking about.
When he was younger, he did his share of LOSING from the front. He's older now, wiser, and with more tools than he had then.

That's why I root for Tedase. Those faulting Rupp, including me, just ask that he do SOME of the leading. Blocking the wind for 800m is not going to kill him. Does he have to? No. But given that fact that he's far better than anyone in the field, I think he should. And really, he better get used to doing some of the pacing if he plans to have a shot at the world level. He won't be kicking with the east Africans.

so, i think that the us championships are just about placements and winning, i dont really think al those runners are out to show the world a good race anyway, they just want a solid race from themselves and rupp got that. just like lagat did. plus they all just gave some sick ass times earlier on in the season so they can sit back and be more then happy about the season, and just o win some easy highclass races is icing on the cake, since rupp ran a 27:10 at payton jordan 10 000m and lagat ran a 12:54 in europe. kudos to lagat and rupp and the entire otc team!

Which is why ESPN has so little interest in showing these races.
