i didnt like him after reading his running times article from a few years ago. he sounded like your textbook "ultra" running, wannabe-non conformist.
after reading this interview i am a fan. would love to see him run a major marathon. NYC, Chicago, etc.
Anton will again get injured and pull out just before WS100 when he realizes he'll be 10th or below then go into hiding without blog posts for a couple months
All the ultra guys should love DK, what they get for doing ultras is better than 2/3 of the post-collegiate's and somehow they find the time to work full time and train for 100 mile races...wow!
Duncan Larkin has been grinding an axe with TNF/Dean since before the E50 on his roads/mills/laps site...

He came close to breaking 3, but stopped near the finish to rescue a cat stuck in a tree and put $1 bills on people's windshields (i.e., passing the buck).
Great article and interesting guy. I guess he's found a niche where he's comfortable but seems like he's wasting those 200 mile weeks on beating a few top level ultra guys when he should, at least once, see where he stacks up in a road marathon. Not because he needs street cred with the letsrun crowd, but so he doesn't ever wander what might have been. A race is a race, whether it's through the woods or on the streets and I think Anton is enough of a competitor to appreciate that.
I don't know but I say Anton is doing just fine, while working on an advanced degree he's managed in the last year to, take 2nd in the Leadville Trail Marathon, win the White river 50mile setting a new CR, Almost crush the Leadville 100 before going down with a injury, recovery from a knee injury, and winning the Miwok 100k this spring with the 2nd fast time ever. Not to bad....
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've not seen either of in the Ultra World Champs
I like how in the article like anton uses the word 'like' to describe like you know like a preteen like would.
He needs to learn to think before he speaks, because using the word 'like' excessively is just as bad as saying 'umm' in a sentence.
I'm guessing that at some point Anton will sit down and read this string and find it very funny.
In particular, I like the posts questioning his mileage and motives. I don't know Anton, but I really doubt he cares what a bunch of anonymous people think of him or if they believe him.
That was pretty much the point of the article.

OK, I'm not knocking those accomplishments but I've never heard of any of those races. If he likes chasing ultra records and the whole scene, then that's cool. But why not go try to pop a fast marathon? If I had his mileage and strength, I would at a minimum be curious what I could run a marathon in. If the Miwok 100K motivates him to run 200 miles a week, that's fine too and obviously what separates him from a weekend road warrior like myself.
Billy Jo: I think he just likes to run mountain and trail ultras, more than road marathons. Nothing weird about that. Personal preference.
He talks about shooting for sub-2:30 if he runs a road marathon in the article, but it's not clear if that's just talk or if he intends to make a run at it.
