Why do so many lower-middle class folks drink multiple large cans of Bud Light, Coors Light, and the like?

This guy has a good point. If it was all about getting drunk for little $, people would all be drinking the cheapest beer out there, but they don't. Because they actually think Bud, Coors, Miller, etc taste good, and they think it is kinda classy, which of course it isn't.

My Dad kept it real. He would drink "Red, white, and blue", or Schlitz when it was way out of style, or Black Label, or Knickerbocker, or others of the cheapest beers one could find in the store. He didn't care. He was a cheapskate, so he put his $ where his mouth was, literally. (or something like that).

So people who drink Bud, etc are the real posers. And PBR ?? Don't get me started with that silly blue collar chic thing.

Having said all that, if you hand me a bud, or a coors, or whatever, and that's my only choice, I will drink it. It's beer, and I am man, so do the math.

But if I have a choice, and the price is even slightly reasonable, I will purchase something interesting, unique, dark, foreign, etc. I've tasted Bud a million times in college. Do I REALLY need another one? not if I am buying/choosing. And if I really want to get hammered, I will do a some shots of JD along with my quality beer.

Drink what you like and don't worry about what other people are drinking. That goes for people on both sides of this discussion. I like microbrews and higher end beers myself. I'm not about to tell a guy who likes Bud that he should be drinking my kind of beer instead. That would make me a douche bag. I'm also not going to listen to anyone who says that liking microbrews makes me pretentious. I drink what I like. I'm a grown man and am perfectly capable of making this decision without help or advice.

There is really no reason that anybody should care what beers other people choose to drink.

Actually when you drink a lot, Coors Light, Bud Light, Miller Light are kind of pricey. The beer of choice by all the alcoholics I know is Busch Lite. It doesn't taste completely nasty like all the others in that price range.

PBR is tolerable as well. I used to drink a lot of Old Dutch and Genesee back in the day and they were ok. These days at most carryouts where I live the cheap beers are Busch and Busch Light, Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee's Best, and Steel House Reserve. Out of all of those Busch Light is the only one I can stomach.

I know what piss smells like. You can get a pretty good idea of what something tastes like by its smell considering that what you perceive as taste is something like 80% smell.

I applaud your diplomacy and agree with your message, but the truth is that Bud/Coors/Miller/etc are bad beers. I would bet that every human being who has actually drank enough variety to get an idea of the spectrum of flavors available would agree. Conversely, I can also pretty much assure you that anyone who thinks those macros are good has *not* experienced any or enough variety.

It's true that no one should be telling anyone else what to drink, but anyone that claims a Bud is "just as good" as some "overpriced micro-brew" is just plain wrong. They would be better off agreeing that they only drink it because it's cheaper and they've drank enough of it to be used to it.

If you like that bat-piss you are not even lower-middle class.

FYI for everybody. Bud lite is made out of rice and miller lite is made from corn instead of barley and malt. Rice and corn are way cheaper and the makers of these beers do not give a crap about the consumer and just want to make money. There is a reason why in Germany Bud Lite, Miller Lite, and beers similar have to be called "beer like products" and not beer.

Just because they use a cheaper method of production means they "do not give a crap about the consumer?" I am damn glad they do not give a crap about me so that I can drink a halfway decent can of beer-like malted beverage for a halfway decent price. They do not conceal their production methods, they are out to make a buck, and I am out to get drunk. It is a win win, consensual situation all around.

You should be an add for these companies. Last night I go to pick up a 12 pack for the weekend BBQ and I see Coors Light, immediately think of this thread, then purchase.

Boulder Beer's Hazed and Confused, WI's New Glarus Spotted Cow, Schell's Bockfest (the best!), Surly Hell, Summit Pale Ale, New Belgium Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, Goose Island Honker's Ale, McEwan's scotch ale, Grand Teton's Lost Continent, Easy Street Wheat.

Those are some of my favorites that I would encourage you to try out. You wont be disappointed.

I challenge all of the so call beer connoisseurs posting on this thread to do the following. Grab a friend and go buy some bottles of Shlitz, Newcastle, Special Export and Heinekin (or your favorite microbrewery imitations of Heineking and Newcastle).

Go home and get out a blindfold and six glasses. Put on the blindfold and have your friend pour either Schlitz or New Castle into 3 of the glasses. Tell your friend to do it in any combination. You must taste each glass and identify which beer you are drinking. Rinse and repeat with Heinekin and Special Export.

i know a family of old money millionaires who pack the fridge with coors light.
