Why are BAA and NYRR so bitter and angry that Houston got the US Trials bid?

And now we know why east coasters are so bitter and angry, they base the success or failure of the OT on everything but how the team goes on to perform in the games. It comes as a blow to their self-importance that crap like how many people are scrambling around to watch the race for free at the venue just doesn't rate on the level of international sport. Save that stuff for the peewee leagues. Nice try but next time just put in better bids, m'kay?

All of you saying they are bitter because their elitist are just silly. How about you go put together a bid for something, invest time, money and energy into creating a strong presentation, and then you don't get it. Of course you're going to be disappointed. It's the same thing that happened with Chicago not getting the 2016 Olympic bid last October. If you work hard for something, believe in it, and don't get it, I would hope that you're a little bitter and angry, otherwise you obviously weren't trying hard enough.

I am happy Houston got the node, simply for the fact that it'll be nice to see a major championship someplace other than the east and west coasts. Good luck Houston!

Please explain how the quality (or lack thereof) of NYC in '08 had any influence on Hall, Ritz and Sell making the team. Are you implying that the bigger crowds and better media coverage hurt other runners who would have made the team instead of them had the '08 OTs been held at some minor league venue?

Are you implying that the bigger crowds and better media coverage impaired their performances at the actual Olympics or would they have run better had they punched their tickets at a minor league venue? Moreover, please explain how the OTs has any affect on how the other runners in the Olympics perform (which, it may come as news to you, has a very direct relationship on how the American runners place). I am curious which venue we could have used that would have stopped Wanjiru from running what was arguably the best marathon ever.

Dumbass, I'm saying that the teams chosen in NYC and Boston weren't any better than those that came out of Birmingham and St. Louis. Look at the scoreboard, there's no getting around it. Can't blame the folks in Chicago for the 2016 debacle. The Arab/Muslim block at the IOC came down hard on Obama on the 1st ballot in Copenhagen because of U.S. Genocide against the people on Arabia. NYRR biterness has some irony. They claim their advantage to produce PRESS as an advantage. Meanwhile they are the reason for the elimination of the 2:19-2:22 athletes. These athletes provide more small town coverage than anyone else in the field. But that kind of press is meaningless to the NYRR.

AS I said in another thread on Houston...there is only 1 factor considered here...money. Course, weather, date, press, qualifying standards, previous performance, etc are all secondary.

Houston didn't come with more money, they came with a bigger credit limit.

It is very rare for Wittenberg to lose out on anything, for one thing. Second, the trials in Boston and New York were extremely successful, except for the tragic death of Ryan Shay.

Houston is the best host - not because NYC or Boston bad cities to host - but because Houston is at a perfect time. Mid-January sets up well for a break after, then resuming training in February-March leading to longer pre-olympic races in early summer.

Boston is too close to the games.

NYC is too far out, and also temps one to try and run another spring marathon...Ryan Hall anyone?

I guess I just think like an athlete and don't really care what the PR machine in NYC or Boston thinks.
