Couldn't agree with the OP more.
Atlanta (96) and Lake Placid (80) were far superior games. Those Yanks really know how to do it up right.

I saw quite a lot of the Games on telly in Oz.We had our usual local media jingoism(or pride if you wish) re our two gold medals and one silver medal. But,that said, the Games came across as a great sporting event, forget the trivia of opening and closing ceremonies, they are always crap whoever does them.
Canadians have a right to be proud of what they achieved in terms of medals,a great performance by the host nation.
As an Aussie, who had the privilege of living in Canada for five years before settling in the best country in the world,I agree with my Canuck brother who said to me that they usually leave the nationalistic, over the top bullshit to their southern neighbours, but this time they felt justified in enjoying their success.
Good on 'em.
Well done Canada. At least no one was shot.See you at the Commonwealths.
The Yanks can go play by themselves.
Wow, the OP clearly got dumped by a Canadian at some point.
Not perfect Games, but perfect hosts. And don't give me some drama about "Own the Podium" or whatever. We've been doing the same thing for ever.
To the Canucks on this site, the OP doesn't represent most Americans - we thought it was 2 weeks of fun, despite you stealing the hockey medal from us ;-). We'll get you next time!
It is ironic that the USA had to get Canada's most embarrassing export to sing at the ceremonies in Atlanta.
Celine Dion.
Are they that hard up?
Some poor little American is still angry that they got theis as*es handed to the them in Hockey aren't they?!!!!
Canada Canada Canada!

DIND DIND DIND we have a winner. The OP is just bitter and green because the US got it's ass kicked for the hockey gold medal hahaha.
The olympics were entertaining and the Vancouver area just looked beautiful. Much much better than that shit hole that was Salt Lake.
Avril Lavigne is sooo hot!
Tinni, Tinni, Tinni.
I live in the area, you need a geography lesson. Whistler Blackcomb is one of the (as pointed out) top resorts in the world. The 38 degrees you looked up was for Whistler Village. Whistler Village is not where they ski, one skis up a little higher. So you are wrongo.
The rain at sea level is perfectly normal. We play hockey indoors and curling and figure skating in doors as well. Perhaps NBC's coverage was that poor. CTV's coverage was world-class. MASSIVE wall-to-wall coverage from our three networks within CTV. Brian Williams of CTV and Brian Williams of NBC visited each other - CTV had a beautful suite built over looking the north shore mountains, with beautiful BC wood and a stylin' fireplace, hardwood floors. NBC had a tent. No shit.
Cypress was the victim of El Nino. We get El Nino here every 4 - 6 years. Google that.
Just a little ferry ride away on Vancouver Island, where I live, Mt. Washington at the same elevation has the most snow in the world 14.5 feet.
So you are completely incorrect, apology accepted.
3 minutes of non-bitter people
After two weeks of laboring to overcome stereotypes, the Closing Ceremonies were suddenly back to "We're just a bunch of Crazy Canucks." I mean it was a cross of bad stand-up comedy and the Macy's parade, complete with the Canadian version of the Rockettes in Mountie outfits.
But far outdistancing any Canadian efforts at self-humiliation at the closing festivities were Bob Costas with a strong assist from Al Michaels. I mean, are they past it or what?
So the temp at the summit is 23 F and the temp in the valley is 38 F. That's a diff of 15 with 9 of those being freezing or below. So 60% of the hill had temps of freezing or below. Then 40% of the hill would be above freezing? And that's for an average winter, which this is not. Not good planning.
OP is a jerk.
I don't ever watch the closing ceremonies.. but I saw some clips on Sports Nation.. That crap was so gay, giant beavers everywere.. mounties dancing.. so dumb
You are idiot. Or a troll. or likely both. Anyway please keep it up. Whistler got way too popular (for all the right reasons) over the last decade. I need people to stay home so I can ski the epic powder all to myself. And then at the bottom hang out in my t-shirt and have beers on the patio. In May. Surrounded by some of the world's best skiers and boarders.

In May? Not likely with average alpine temperatures of 10C.

I assume you know that the outdoor events were not restricted to alpine skiing. And as someone from the area you surely must know that cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, and nordic combined were not contested at altitude. Their sites were much closer to the village and its 38 F average temperature than the summit of the mountain. No wonder it was pouring rain during some of these events and that the snow conditions were so deplorable. As I said before, even an amateur meteorologist could have predicted these conditions. It was a crap shoot even in a non-El Nino year. What were they thinking?
You have a point about the mid and lower alpine regions being warm, but like cross-country running, the conditions can be anyway. If we had it 800kms east in Banff the risk is it could have been -30 with half or less spectator attendance and farther away from the large metropolitan area of Greater Vancouver. Calgary is not small, but it is less than half the size. And after all they had the Winter Olys in '88...even though Calgary is far colder, they had a real snow issue in '88.
The Olympics were a great success. Ross Rebagliatti (sp?) said to the media that the weather is blown out of proportion, as throughout the winter athletes experience all sorts of weather. He would know as he is an Olympic Gold Medalist and a resident of Whistler.
No that was not embarrassing or anything else. A good sense of humour is a sign of possible intelligence, but you can be smart and humourless too.
The closing ceremonies were very tongue-in-cheek and meant to be self deprecating.
The organizers hoped that people would get it and most did, some can't and that is their loss.
William Shatner was brilliant. Perhaps the Canadian jokes were inside jokes - maybe that wasn't the best move, but as a Canadian, him and Michael J Fox were awesome.
