The net worth number can be pretty useless.
A few years ago my net worth was +$100K, now it is around zero.
Nothing in my day to day life has changed and my future looks clearer and brighter now than it did then.
My home value went down from an inflated value.
I still have it. Have moved and rented it out.
I'll pay down or off the mortgage over time and the value will creep up and net worth will be +$100K again and more over time.
Look at your 401K going down and up.
Net worth is just a snap shot. Like being up at the craps table. It doesn't mean anything until you cash out.
You also won't see much of a correlation between profession and net worth until you are over a certain age and even then investment decisions can play a bigger role than how much you made.
