Talking with you and Al, right? I also remember seeing you at Breckenridge just a couple months later as we were embarking on nordic ski racing, trying to figure what it was all about.
Yes, you were one of the runners I was chasing and could never catch in the race. Sandrock and Lyndon Ellefson came back, and maybe one or two more, but that was about it. I remember going out semi-conservative, hoping to negative split. Hit half at 1:16 and 20 at 1:55 and change, still on 2:31 pace, and then yes, watched it slip away over the last mile or two in an out of body sort of way.
I had planned for Twin Cities and sub 2:30 that fall but came down with giardia just after Labor Day and ended up having 2 bouts of it and was still not 100% by Rawhide. Skinniest of my life, 132 lbs on race day (at 5'10").
I have photo proof in our files somewhere: red balloon shorts that I had kept from college xc, black dress socks I had to borrow because I'd forgotten my own, and those yellow felt-like work gloves.
1500 master we've also met. If you remember the Rattlesnake Rumble xc race in Ft. Collins. That was the race my wife and I put on. We moved away and they paved the course. Too bad, I miss doing that every year. You have a good range with 400/800 speed and sub 3 marathon.
So that makes five here that I know or have met (including CharlieS).
