This statement seems to contradict itself.
1.You say William and Mary is expected to be top 2 in the region
2. Then you say it\'s surprising that they didn\'t blow up
3. The region was expected to be hotly contested this year
So.....given those facts, the logical conclusion would be that IF W&M blew up, they would not even be 2nd place.

Why the hating? Seriously? They were 5th in their region!!! After being consistently over ranked all year they lost to Duke whose top 5 5ks are:

Compare that to UVA's 5k bests...
I think one thing that some are overlooking here is the margin of victory by William and Mary. W&M completely stomped a very solid NC State by 50 points, and didn't even have all of their scorers they have had in previous meets this season. This was thought to be a close race going into it, but the Tribe proved that they are the class of the region and that their top ten ranking is justified. Look for good things from them come next week in Terra Haute, as well as from the other SE teams.
Jon Grey? If I'm not mistaken he ran for Oklahoma right? If so why the transfer? and how good would he Sooners be with him?
if william and mary are firing on all cylinders they could be a podium team.
To Mary: W&M impressed at Regionals, but NC State has been the biggest surprise of the year. They win ACCs, and now they are the clear 2nd place at Regoinals despite their #2 (sometimes #1) guy John Martinez finishing 52nd. If you drop 40 points off of NC State's team score, they're not too far off of W&M. Granted every team has what if's, but this was a big miss for State, as was Cory Nanni for Duke. Hopefully, both these runners will redeem themselves at Nationals. I just think Geiger and NC State deserve some credit for developing a credible squad behind Hill and Martinez.

John Martinez was 10th. Andrew North was 52nd. The original results had them mixed up. Here are the right ones.

By developing a credible squad you must mean coaching footlocker all-americans Bobby Moldovan and Pat Campbell to All-Region performances. Tough job to do from a coaching perspective.
Real development would have involved turning one more individual from their roster into a legitimate fifth man.
In no less than two years, UNC will start crushing the ACC.

How can you argue Moldovan (sub 14) and Campbell(All-region, all-acc as a redshirt freshmen) have not developed. Footlocker all americans? Dame and North have scored at various parts of the year and were barely mid pack at ACC's last year. UNC will, and always will, suck the teet of the rest of the ACC. Although they showed some nice development letting a quarter of the teams at ACCs put their whole roster in before their 3rd guy.
Back to what matters....W+M is looking real good coming into Nationals.
Hiring Vig was the best decision made by the Administration since I was brought to Charlottesville.

What can you expect in a new coach's first year with no athletes he recruited himself? I'd say thats pretty good work with what he was given. Once he has a few of his own recruits in his system they will be the class of the ACC. They will be a national qualifier next fall.
I agree its not Watsons fault but no one would say that is pretty good and justifies predicting them to win ACC's in the next two years.
