Besides, this guy isn't talking about setting his singlet on fire and stomping on it as a form of hate and protest against his former school. He's talking about wearing the damn thing during a race because he likes it. That's what singlets are for. You old people are irrational as hell sometimes.

But it is not a singlet....it is a uniform (designating I represent Colorado State University). A singlet would be apparel with a Nike logo on it.

And why is it important to run FAST in said college uniform, as others have mentioned, that shouldn't matter.

Also, why do the OP bring the subject up if he didn't feel squirly about it.

Go ask your former college coach if he feels uncomfortable with you racing in your old college UNIFORM and see what he says.

Since it p***es you off so much, from now on I will make a point of always wearing my college jersey when I race. If you see an old guy with a Georgia Tech top, it's me. Make sure to say "hi".

Let's put it this way. Wearing your college singlet is like advertising your college. A high school kid could come up to you after the race and say, "Hey, I've been considering going there!" More likely, though, the high school kid would just see how you ran, and make a note of it in his head if he was considering going to your alma mater. So, ask yourself if your performance and your willingness to otherwise represent your school well will be good advertisement. That is where speed comes into play. Fast high school kids probably don't want to go to a school where the 24 year old graduate is running an 18 minute 5k.

Put on the singlet if you're ready to represent your college well. It was great to see my old DIII college singlet race the finals at USATFs.

Wear it, it's yours do as you please. The fact that 90% of Lets Run people here telling you its not okay means that it really is.

First of all, this is really common. I've been dusted by lots of guys in tiny races who were wearing their USA gear (no they didn't buy it; I knew who they were).

Regarding the general proposition, I think it's fine if you're doing it in a race in which there are no team affiliations. For road races, there's no formal difference between a current student and an alum wearing the singlet. Neither is representing the school in an "official" capacity like in a collegiate meet.

I think it is perfectly fine. You are actually paying respect to your school. They provided you coaching and perhaps a scholarship and you are potentially promoting them to new recruits.

Only time I would not wear it is if there was a team competition going on with college racers, as it might confuse competitors for team places/team standings.
