What's the jerkiest thing you ever did in a race?

I was running in the 4x400 in a high school duel(dual?) meet. We were running against a rival school that we really hated. It was one of those Hatfield vs. McCoy sort of things and I really don't know why we hated them, but we did. This school's 4x400 team had won a state title the year before last, so we were pretty sure they were going to beat us. Anyways, I was running anchor and their anchor ran out of gas in the final 150m or so. So I took the opportunity to turn it on as hard as I could and put about 15m-20m on him in the final stretch. Before I reached the finish line I turned around to look back at him with a grin on my face and gave him a very condescending "come and get me" gesture with my hand.

It was one of those stupid things teenagers do. Their coach wasn't happy about it, but our coach was positively pissed. Oh, and we were DQd. But to make matters worse, we later found out that wasn't their "A" team.

Some of you may remember this. I had taken the entire summer off for no good reason really and came into the season in horrible shape. It was my junior season of college and I was in the reserve race. So there was this kid that had apparently gone out way too fast for the first mile. Right around 5:10 (I found out later that he was like a 29 min 8ker.) Anyways, my teammate and I passed him at about a mile and a half and he blatantly runs me into the grass. So I take my elbow and put a good one into his side. About 3 seconds later I feel two hands on my back and I almost lost my balance. So I turn completey around, grab him by the jersey, and punched him in the eye. He immediately curled to the ground. Not knowing what to do, I heard my teammate say, "Come On!" So I turned around and kept running. I was completely unfocused on the race for the next K and thought about dropping out. (I actually saw him on the cart pass me by about a half mile up the course with a towel full of blood over his face) Anyways, I got my head back in the race and used the adrenaline to run a real nice last 3k. lol.

He ended up filing charges and all that crap and he had a broken nose and needed reconstructive surgery. I sucked it up and paid him and took a diversion on the case. It was just dropped a few weeks ago actually.

Quite often, I accidentally clip the back of people's spikes while racing. They probably think i'm being mean, but it's not on purpose.

I don't know if this is mean or not, but sometimes I position myself in front of people in xc races to try to keep them from passing me

During the lead off leg of a huge 4x400, my teamate knocked the baton out of a competitor's hand, totally destroying their chances of a win (I don't know if he did it on purpose)

I as running right next to a wheelchair guy who wiped out on a hairpin turn on a downhill. I stopped my watch and tried to help him up, and when we got going I put too much downward pressure on the back end and he popped a huge wheelie and almost flipped backwards into me. Close call. I felt like a good Samaritan for two seconds, then like an idiot.

Telling a competitor a dirty joke, and accelerating just the moment he couldn't stop laughing.

In a regional 60m final indoors, I cut a huge fart in the "set" position.

EVERYBODY false started--me included!

I ran the lead woman into a puddle. Sharp right turn with 50 meters to finish in a 5k, I was on her left and could have opened up on the turn. She had to go through a huge puddle. Farkin' lame, huh?

I ran a half marathon with my ex...he stayed with me the whole way....til the last 20 yards where I sprinted and passed him across the finish line

I was running an all-comer 3000 and there was a puddle across lane one on the first turn of the race. The water was due to the sprinkler system on the football field. I noticed it on the first lap but was toward the outside so I was safe. On the next lap however I was on the inside and I wasn't getting out. I thought if I'm getting my feet wet, evryone is getting wet. So I stomped my feet hard as I splashed through the puddle. I heard a couple "ah mans!" but not too much grief.

HS mile. Me and my teammate were 4:30ish milers. We both were very strong kickers. A runner at our rival school had a 4:25 PR, but was not a good kicker. At the conferance meet, me and my teammate boxed him in and kept the pace slow. When our rival tried to get out of the box, we would surge and box him again. We did this about three times. When it came time for the last lap and we were still right there with him on a slow pace, he couldn't hang with our kicks, me and my teammate go 1-2.

I felt satisfied that our plan worked, but at the same time, felt bad for the shaddy race tactics.

I strategically placed my then-girlfriend at a turn that was about 100 meters from the finish of a pretty competitive 10k in town. Prize money was like $500. I knew I was going to be in the lead pack, but wasn't sure I could pull off the victory.

Anyway, she was a cool girl, pretty crazy. I told her that if I was in the lead pack coming into the turn, she should flash us her tits. I thought the other guys might get caught off guard and laugh or something, enabling me to charge while they were distracted.

Turns out, she got a few other girls to do it with her, and it surprised me just as much as the other guys. It was a sight to see. Three hot girls in their early twenties flashing the lead pack of 4 guys. Not just a quick flash either, we are talking jumping, bouncing, jiggling.

I got third, no prize money. Still, it was a good day.

I fail to see how showing other people tits would be considered jerky, even if you do win money.

I was running my first marathon in Detroit in 2001 and was really hitting the wall after 20. Came upon a water stop, and one of the volunteers cut from one side of the road to the other right in front of me. I had just taken a cup of water, and in the moment, tossed its entire contents on the guy. I've always felt pretty bad about that- it was pretty cold, and he was only wearing a lightweight shirt. He looked real confused as I ran by.

I like to put out my arm as I pass water stations and knock all the cups over so none of my competitors get any water.

It's fun.

HS 1600m, early season crappy dual meet. I was 15-20s faster over 1600m than anyone else in the race.

I jogged with the pack for 3 laps. Approaching the bell, the top guy from the other team is in first. I made a half-hearted attempt to pass, expecting him to wilt immediately. He did not, and sped up. I tried two more times before 1200m, and he fought me off each time, probably thinking he was having the race of his life.

At the bell, I pulled up directly alongside him and stared at him with a look of death until he noticed, at which point I continued to cruelly glare at him with a look that said, "who the F do you think you are, how dare you try to run with me."

I then took off and ended up winning by 10s or more.

I was an intense and arrogant prick those days, and have always regretted that specific incident as well as my general attitude during that part of my life.
