if it ain't in you without seeking the boards, throw in the towel. i didn't know running boards existed until very recently. i also hate the running scene and neglect it. i do fine on my own and get all i need out of running. more than i ever expected. get off the boards for the reason your on the boards. this is not how to become a great athlete. do your own thing first.

It's simply for advice on becoming an elite. Let's say for example you wanted to become a pilot. As a child you might want to take lot's of vitamin A to help eyesight (you need great vision, 20/20 or better?). I'm looking for my Vitamin A in becoming a great athlete.

To the OP:

Just look at people like Bob Hodge, Ruben Sanca, Nate Jenkins, Bill Rodgers... they weren't speed monsters coming out of high school, but they've done pretty well (and Sanca looks like he'll be an excellent runner). Hodge & Jenkins both went high 13 low 14.. that ain't bad at all

So OP, did you make it?

And if not, what kind of prs did you run?

Don't listen to these people who say crap like "You can't run X time". They don't know you or your level of training/development. If you want to do it, devote yourself to it and give it a (serious) try.

Get a good coach. Listen to him/her.

Without the first the rest only matter to a point. The whole "you can do anything you put your mind to" is just wrong.
