A question of idle curiosity: Where did he get the arm warmers from? I can see bringing a pair to Europe for a X-C race in February or March, or in the US in November. But who has a pair at hand in early September!?

No. Bekele had more left than anyone else. None of them were going to outsprint him.
Could we chalk this sub 13 to altitude tent living as well?
he trained for like a month at altitude in St. Moritz, Switzerland where the weather gets sometimes below 50's even in summer.

It was a PB for Merga, as well as everyone else in the top 7 or 8 except for Bekele and one other, who did get a SB.

So confused. Trying to make a point by putting a slower Lagat ahead of Teg?
Tremendous job by Teg! Forget about the arm warmers. The man is tough enough in the cold to have run through the winters in the Midwest for his whole life. It sounds like he didn't quite go for it as hard as he could and maybe had a few seconds worth still in the tank, but this is a long overdue six second pr. And he beat some very good runners. It is an exciting time to be an American distance fan, better than I can remember since the mid eighties.
Maybe Solinsky was injured or just couldn't hang with the ferocious pace. Earlier in the year, he seemed on target for low thirteen.
