Let's get a thread started focused on predictions for this year. Here are my top teams: 1. Adams State --Enough said. 2. Western State --With the arrival of new Foreigners and their solid returners they are going to be tough. 3. Chico State --They lose their front runner but always have a strong pack. 4. Colorado Mines --After a dismal performance last season they return their top 4, with the growing age of Mclain it could get interesting. 5. Grand Valley --Again they always field outstanding teams with outstanding Coaching 6. Alaska Ancourage --With the rumors of arriving foreigners and their leader Cheseto they will be a strong team this year. 7. Harding --Kirwa is their lead man and I predict him for the individual title, not too familiar with rest of team. 8. Queens --Crouch is an amazing front runner and will pull this team to a top ten finish. 9. Abilene Christian --This is the kicker. With their program in shambles from violations and the recent departure of Charles White they have 4 great runners, but it takes 5 to win. I predict them at 9 but they could be anywhere up to third. 10. Drury --Expect some surprises from this team. Zapatero was All American last season and their young team is maturing. 11. Edinboro --This team is always in the hunt but I don't think they will crack the top 10 this year. 12. U Mass Lowell --If I remember right they lose Sanca to graduation so they may be lacking a front runner. 13. Metro State --Since Julian has jumped ship and their loss of Tolentino, there have been rumors of many of the team members transferring to be with Julian. With the team splitting, its tough to see them doing much better than this, despite their excellent track season.

NAIA-i dont even no what to say...but its nothing good...ok?

D1: You are the one, you are the reason why I run, without you there is no sun, its through you that collegiate track and field has begun. Unfortunately, you've grown so much that a few new branches have sprung (D2, D3, NAIAwhatever). But lets be honest they are on the bottom rung. I hope those branches wither, then, and only then, will US distance running be complete. College nationals should be one elite meet. Whoever meets the standards may compete, however, there should be no baby nationals for those who have PBs that are deplete..... of any recognition. We need to consolidate the best competition, to make D1 the one and only indivisble division, that should be our mission....We need to act now...by the looks of it the Africans could use the competition!!....that is all... this is my petition...however, it may just be hopeful wishing.

haha what a classic... i cant believe someone actually wrote all that. Its like he envies div2 schools. And im at a div1 school.

agreed. metro & nm highlands for sure should be 5 & 6. why are augustana and nebraska kearney getting love after poor regional showings last year? and why are msu moorehead and northern state ranked?

The rankings don't mean anything. Just look at the difference in the conference polls verse the region polls. For example last year UCCS wasn't even ranked in the top 10 in the region and got 17th at nationals (and they're not ranked in the top 10 again in this poll). There's only one ranking that matters and that's the final results in November. That's why you run the races.

wonder why their not ranked??? probably because all you have to do is look at there roster to see they graduated all their top runners on there mens side and some disappeared. and what in the world to their womens team the last few years. cu springs used to be darn solid. my moneys on adams, western, mankato, nmhu, mines and metro. i don't think they'll disapoint

I believe the point that "Central Rankings Schamkings" was trying to make was basically that polls don't mean much regardless of who you are. They just used UCCS men's team as an example from last year since they were talking about the Central Region, but it could've been any team though. However, I do agree with the statement about the final results being all that matter anyway. The polls are just to get people interested (as they obviously have here) and to follow the same protocol as other college sports with rankings.

overall ranking seem a little weird. alaska anchorage 15th? and western wash moves up all the way to 7th... but the worst has to be chico not only staying in the trophy zone but 3rd??????? HEY COACHES, THEY LOST BAUHS!!!!!!! are you kidding? dont get me wrong, they are definitly a trophy contender but they arent gonna get a 1 point guy. and abilene stays the same with some big losses but grand valley doesnt move up even though they dont lose anyone and were close to a trophy spot. edinboro jumps 5 places? and how? and another shocker... metro loses their coach and one runner graduates, everyones back plus luna and they fall to 18th... wow... congrats coaches on another stellar pole

Sure chico lost bauhs, but that is only one runner. Chico is always deep and reloads well. WWU was 10th last year and they return their top 5 (w/ 3 all americans) and add another 2 time all American who red shirted last year.

I agree to an extent. You need to keep in mind though that, as stated, this is D2: most of the guys that have the greatest impact (depth-wise) come out of no where. That said, UCCS graduated a lot--definitely more a rebuilding year.

Never said they wouldnt have been competitive, I said they would not have won D1. They have always had top guys that would have given the top D1 guys a run for it.

OK, doesn't ACU have to abide by their NCAA sanctions starting this year? From what i remember it stated that they could have only 5 foreign athletes on any team on their campus. Now if XC guys run track then wouldn't it have to work out for them to have all of their foreign athletes as Kenyans for the track team, if they were to run XC this fall? If they use any Jamaicans or Russian jumpers, or whatever, they would have to cut a Kenyan from the squad yes? Either way i'd say that ACU will have a tougher time of it if they can only have 5 Kenyans, instead of their usual 7-8. No room for error if this is indeed true.

ACU only has 5 foreign men on the squad for 09-10.

3 Kenyans, 1 Brit, 1 French.

ACU National Champ in TJ last year is American.

Amos Sang who didn't run at the xc ncaa's cause of a stress fracture would 5 months later win the penn relays 10k and another month later scored in both the 5 & 10 at ncaa's. Certainly a canadate for come back of the year in d2. Either Sang is the most talented athlete in d2 or Burroughs is a brillant coach (or likely perhaps a combination of the two)
It's true about the Kenyans though. If you don't fail in line, your scholarship is reduced or you're booted out. How many of us would have the balls to kick off the 2008 10k & steeple national champion (female)? This is a fresh respective for ACU.

A fresh (sp)respective for ACU? I recall the Hood bros. kicking off about 5 African runners as a result of not falling in line with their program. 1 Kenyan, 3 Burundi, 1 South African.

As for Karunde, she wasn't "kicked off" the team, she requested and received a transfer to Texas Tech where she will join her sister Carolyn.

ASC host the Joe I. Vigil Open. Interesting to see if any new recruits race and the form of there old stars. Is western racing again this year?
