Also an alum.
Terry was always quick to take the credit (from her assistants) but never responsibility.

Venegas makes more sense for this position. They already have a successful distance coach with Conover. With Venegas' throws program and Conover's distance program, Cal Poly could easily become a regional power and possibly a top 5-10 NCAA team.
Even with a more capable director at the helm, Poly still won't be getting enough funding to compete as a top 5-10 NCAA team on the track. In cross the potential is there to improve on their consistent high level performances, but on the track the money just isn't there. It really is truly amazing what conover has been able to do given the lack of funding, and bearing the burden that was Terry Crawford for all those years.
That's exactly the reason why I think Venegas could be a good hire. Kids would line up to throw for him, even with just 1/4 scholarships. And two other things to consider...Cal Poly is pretty inexpensive (and cheaper than UCLA) for in-state kids and the qualifying standards are slightly easier (depending on major).
bump
DI California Director position open after 18 years.
What's going on? Anyone?
I thought Coach Nickerson from "All the Right Moves" was headed to Cal-Poly???????????????
