Fastest 2 mile time for Military guys??

Then there was also Clay Swabe(sp) who ran a 339 1500 at West point right? He probably put down a relaly solid twmiler....as to the 4 hours of sleep crap....That's just not true for most of the time. Especially in Rotc before you get in the real army...and even when you get in the army they don't make you get 4 hours of sleep the night before...The only time that might happen is in Basic training or Advanced Camp if you're going to become and officer. You get 10 minutes between each exercise giving you plenty of time to recooperate. There are sub 9 runners out there on pt tests...i knew one. The guys who go on to compete for the Army running team are no slouches.

i say good for him... he earned it. i don't see most people on here in the army reserves, graduating from west point, and still having the drive and guts to go for a dream.. so until you do everything he did then shut the hell up. why don't you get a petition signed by all 300 million or so people in the united states saying they don't wanna pay for dan brown's plane ticket after he has put himself in the position to be called up at any point, and then i'll respect your opinion.

I'm with wisco. and another time to add to the list. I ran 3:51 1500 meters in college but never really had a chance to run a 2 mile in the Air Force. Last time I raced a 2 mile... long time ago. 9:32.

Not all military folks are as fit as we would like them to be (not that a sub 10 minute 2 mile is necessary to be considered fit) but there are a few out there that can hammer some runs.

There is no way in hell that you ran an 8:51. What did you run in high school? You are full of shit man, there is no way after going to muscle failure in push-ups and sit-ups that you could run that, two 4:25 miles? Sounds like you may have had the first side affect of the Anthrax shot.

I ran 9:55 on my last 2 mile run(I am the one who started this thread) and it was on a high school track. I run everyday while on active duty, put in my 8 hours a day of work, 8-9 miles a night with the 3 times a week P.T. I do my workouts with a local Junior college and an older group of guys and I run a 9:55 two mile. So in all actuallity I could run faster than 9:55 if I only did 2 miles.

Nobody but pt geeks give a crap about the push ups and sit ups anyway. Just max them out and then get up. Shouldn't bring you to muscle faliure if you're worth a crap. That shit's all subjective anyway. What good is a 400 going to do for you anyway?

I know that Corey Smith who ran for Georgetown is now in the marines. He ran 7:58 in college and i heard that he killed the physical fitness test three mile run.

I've seen Dickie roll some impressive workouts while in Hawaii, one that comes to mind was a 4:15 mile time trial on the Schofield Barracks Track in the middle of a 100+ mile training week. Dudes a monster!! Needs to hurry up with his current job so he can get back to some decent training.

Thanks for the attack on my integrity. Acctually I did run an 8:51. It set the national ROTC PT test record at FT. Lewis. In regards to high school, I don't even remember running fast. Did run a race or two in college. Anything from a 1:50 in the 800m, 3:46 1500m, 8:52st, 30:00. Yeah, but like you were saying, nobody could ever run sub 9:00, let alone a non-WCAP soldier. I am stationed in IRAQ!

I believe Ersatz Genius and John the Baptist(=Dickie) posts but the extended scale scores are a bit exaggerated. I am assuming that these scores were under the old PT standards and they were in the 17-21 age group or 22-26 age group. Real scores:

17-21=

EG- 103pu=121pts/101su=109pts/10:14=117pts TOTAL=347 vs 371!

John- 107pu=125pts/105su=113pts/8:51=130pts TOTAL=368 vs 400!

22-26=

EG- 123pts/114pts/124pts TOTAL=361 vs 371!

John- 127pts/118pts/138pts TOTAL=383 vs 400!

However, under the new, easier, standards 371 and 400 would be pretty close. What a bunch of crap that the 17-21 age group is no longer the highest standard but that is a entire different subject!

Actually, I am not Dickie, but I have run into him. And my score was on the new scale, thus the "about 400" was a close guestimate I didn't actually take the time to calculate while posting earlier.

Yes, there are some pretty fast runners in the military. I don't doubt that John the Baptist is a former running stud and a few other posts on here are legit. In fact I know GaryB is legit and Liam is for real. I know many other sub 10 guys in the military also. However, there is a tendency in the military to measure courses a bit short. If the PT test is not on a track then it is more often than not short. This happens for two reasons. First, most units measure courses themselves using a variety of ways to measure but none are what one could consider certified. Second, the NCO put in charge of measuring the course is usually not a running expert or stud and therfore it will benefit himself and his soldiers during the PT test if he measures it on the friendly side. It also seems that every time I show up at a new unit and people find out I am a runner there is always a story about so and so the stud who has run an incredible time. I usually shrug it off and wait for the next PT test to roll around so we can see. After many years and seven different locations all the talk has been exactly that, talk. Believe it or not if you are a 9:00-10:00 minute guy in the Army then most of the other guys in this range know who you are or no someone that knows you.

Finally, I would like to wish my fellow soldier/runners in Iraq well. Stay safe and keep up the running if you have the opportunity. I hope to see you all in the next Army 10 Miler when you return.

Um...in the 17-21 its 72 pushups is maxing, and 78 situps is maxing and 13 minutes is maxing...6 seconds under is one extra point. SO you don't know what you are talking about....103 pushups=131 points, 101situps=123 points and 1014twomile=127 points giving you a 381

Sounds like an interesting test. How exactly does it work? I mean, is there an alloted time for the push-ups and sit-ups, or are they just to failure, and are you doing the push-ups and sit-ups right at the starting line and starting the 2mile right when you finish them?

You have 2 mins to complete as many push ups as possible, then up to 10 minutes to begin your 2 sit ups, then up to another 10 minutes to begin the 2-mile. You can start early if you wish, also the situps and pushups are done usually on the infield of the track on grass.

I'm actually much more confident in the 371 total than in the breakdown I gave. Shit, that test was over eight years ago and as people have pointed out......--> We Army guy's Are Kind; of? DUMb!> so I don't remember the exact numbers.

I know my total push-ups and total sit-ups were both over 100, neither by much, and I think I may have been given credit for 10:13 rather than 10:14 for my 10,760' run.

Piss on it, though. I was happier with the push-ups and sit-ups than with the run because for some reason after my 11:03-ish "triumph" in the beginning-of-camp diagnostic test, the members of the oaf brigade assumed that because I was slightly built and could run fast, I would tank the PU and SU. (Had I merely been an average runner I doubt they would have speculated about my performance in these events at all, but to some dumbasses, life is a zero-sum game.) SO it was fun to wipe the oafs' asses in "their" events too, although as anyone knows the test is slanted in favor of smaller, wiry guys than it is toward te pure strength types (a few dudes who could bench close to 300 didn't do a whole lot of push-ups simply because they had to push up a larger upper body).

I can vouch for the gaining weight and running slow in basic. I started at West Point in 1996. I was 2;05/4;35/9;55 type in HS. When we did the 2 mile test I didn't break 11;00 and I beat Scott Goff (who ran a 2:16 marathon this year). I'm hopefully going to the Army Chaplain Basic course this summer. We do take the, APFT I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do.
