I may be wrong, but if Marsh ran 8:21.55 in 1977 then Malmo couldn't have set an American record in 1978 with an 8:21.7 could he? It appears that worldxcnut must have known he was wrong all along, which explains his refusal to look up the historical data.

Ok I didn't read this whole thread yet for lack of time right now but the 1986 U.S. team in Neauchetel, Switzerland was very good. They were top 3 I'm pretty sure maybe second?

They had Porter who placed 6th and John Easker placed 10th. Then Bickord and Eyestone were also in the top 20.

Also on the team was Craig Virgin who was a little past his prime(amazingly only 30 years old, just seemed old at the time to me)

Alan Scharsu, Keith Brantly, Jeff Drenth, and Randy Reina also were on that team. They were very focused on winning and was one of the few times I recall all the top U.S. distance runners getting together to go for the win.

Just read through-thought I had the last great team. Looks like 1993 was the last medal team.

I was there for that race and saw many of the world's best in that race. Sadly, things have changed. Part of the problem is indoor track

Do not think Indoor Track is part of the probelm. The top guys aren't running indoors, they are training for that one big race in the fall? Funny how guys can only race one or two times a year these days.

Also a part of the problem, but not a big part. Deek, Boston Billy, Virgin and others trained for 1-2 big races a year but made World Cross a part of their plan.

Ah, LR table tennis at its best! Serve, return, topspin, return, attack, return, attack, return w/backspin. Problem is, when the winner is already known, intrigue goes soft & one is left to wonder when the loser will get put away. Perhaps in the next 5 parries?

Looking at Results site; looks like the '78 Team was only 5 points from the Gold.

Ray, Boston Billy never made World Cross a part of his plan.....I agree with the other two though.

I could swear his bronze at world cross and his american record a month later at Boston both came in '75, but I may be wrong.

The point I was making Ray was that after that promising start (1975) Rodgers never raced x-c again.

According to '78 Results. Rodgers was 44th.

No question it was the Women's team from 2003.

Placed second as a team and got the runner up individual.

Deena Kastor (2nd)

Colleen De Reuck (7th)

Katie McGregor (15th)

Elva Dryer (17th)

They were 3rd.
