If you were there, you'd realize that he really wants to run in this race. He is a guy that is VERY committed to his team whether it be OK state or the USA.

I don't get why everyone has to be negative and worry about the future. So many people don't get it. The point of running isn't to save yourself for 8 years from now.

This maybe the only chance he has in his life of ever being apart of representing his country on a team that could medal (although I think they'll get killed at #4) or maybe even medalling himself.

Steve Slattery had to sign a release that he wouldn't sue Colorado as he wanted to run NCAAs his senior year with mono or something like that.

Lots of guys run NCAAs each year with stress reactions. It's not ideal but the fact of the matter is he's going to have to take a month off anyway so why not run the race.

Personally, I think he should run this race, and then redshirt outdoors (although I guess the odds of him competing all 4 years are slim). But skip outdoors and then get ready for xc next year.

rojo, thanks, these updates are really great. i can't wait for the (junior mens) race! letsrun has done an admirable job hyping this. i haven't been this excited for world cross since 2005 when ritz was talking about going for a medal (haha).

also, it is really hilarious that cherono/shaheen thought fernandez would be 6'5".

It's about 5:00 pm here and I just got back from the press conference. German Fernandez was pne of the featured athletes. That's the good news. The bad news - his foot is 100% in a boot thanks to a stress reaction in his foot. Now don't worry, he's still going to give it a go.
I haven't eaten anything all day so I'll try to write up a recap of the press conference soon and include the photos of German and his boot.
But check out the above photo gallery and you'll see he was running fine. He also gave me a great interview and was emphatic that he'd be fine.
More later.

That's not what a inside source told me, they told me his foot was 93.47% in a boot.

Rojo, German just ran the meaningless race that everyone who didn't have German fever thought he would as soon as these plans were announced. Thanks for contributing to the train wreck.
