- what in the world are you talking about??? the kid has raced 3 TIMES since cross. he has won 3 TIMES- in 3.56 (wjr), jr xc champ over derrick and puskedra by 2-0 SECONDS, and 7.47 last night with last 1200 in 3 minutes. what more do you want to be a "gamer"??? seriously, please answer because i want to know. are you that stupid?

Don't know if anyone did the conversion, but, I have 7:47 = 8:33. Basically, what he ran in high school. And, no, I did a straight conversion, not considering indoor, 307m track, etc.

Probably equivilent to a 8:23-8:24 2-mile. Reports, though, have he as Coe running the last 1200 in 3:00. Meaning negative splits. So maybe they could have run 8:22 or less for the full 2 miles.

I was wondering about Harvard's indoor track. I ran on it for the first time in the winter of 1977-78, shortly after it was completed. I couldn't remember whether it was 200 meters or 220 yards, but almost all of the NCAA indoor races back then were at English rather than metric distances, so I figured it might have been 220 yards. It was a wonderful track, nicely banked, superfast for that era, and very gentle on the body.

Yeah, but starting in the outside lane is sweet, cause you get a net downhill of over a meter. I got out at least a second faster than I would have.

I think he's a gamer, but the fact is, he's never won a competitive championship race. If he outkicks the field or simply blows them away at indoor nats, he will officially be a serious gamer.

Remember he's only a freshman, so depending on how you define a "competitive championship race," he hasn't had many opportunities, but let's not forget these recent wins:

NON - breaking a long-time national high school record and beating Pukesdra head-to-ead

Jr XC - beating both Pukesdra and Derrick, who both finished top 10 at NCs as true freshman.

Winning the US Junior XC champs over Derrick and Puskedra, 13:44 and 13:46 5k runners, as well as top 7 collegiate xc runners, by 20+ seconds is pretty "gamer" in my book.

Though I tend to agree with you, his performances at Footlocker and NCAA cross country continue to define him in many minds.Somewhat reminiscent to Rupp, until he won NCAA.

Why is the fact that, while convincingly sick, GF neg split roughly 4:00, 3:46+, with a hard kick to spare, being so thoroughly neglected? This performance, despite the track, is totally legit. Rupp ran 7:49 in perfect conditions with Goucher and Lincoln in the race, positive splitting.

It's a lot like his mile, where he went 2:00, 1:56. Some people just do better with neg splits, more than that however, I think his latest performances have show that he possesses a great deal of stamina as a RACER, which is what you need to be highly competitive on the international level.
