I solved it in about 30-40 minutes I guess--- I did end up making a grid-like structure, noting who had what. From there, I put the pieces together and ended up with the german=prince=FISH=coffee.
Was pretty fun ;)

why would you need a hint? Almost anyone could solve this puzzle if they really wanted to.
There were 15 hints listed below the riddle. Are you saying you solved the problem without looking at any of them??
Why would you feel it necessary to lie like this?
There *might* be a simple linear train of thought that you could follow by reading through them in order. But if you had the ability to process that in 1 second, you could type it out here in a simple paragraph. Since your defense is instead an attempt to wiggle out of answering that question (posed earlier) I must conclude that you are full of shit.
Idiot.
Think what you will. I have often been able to do things very similar to this. I honestly can't tell you how it happens. I just read it and answered it. That is it. Evidently, my daughter has inherited a similar ability. Call me what ever you want as it makes no difference to me.
Have a tremendous night.

You are full of shit. You now have all the time in the world to show us the chain of logic that takes place to figure out the answer. I am surrounded by a lot of smart people, many of them can think quite quickly. However, if you ask them they would have no trouble explaining their rationalizations. I hate people like you. Arrogant, delusional and dumb.
you do have a 25% chance of guessing it correctly since you know the swede has cats... he can't have the fish.
going by that meta-logic if you will, the idea that 98% of people wouldn't be able to guess something that can only be wrong 75% of the time is probably a little faulty.
of course, you could also use some geography: germany has the least percentage of it's border as coast, so a german man will therefore be much more likely to have a fish as a pet... the others have the ocean for their fish, a german will keep the fish in his home.
To be fair, the 98% presumably only applies to being able to prove definitively that it is the German. So guessing right would not count.
Didn't take too long- maybe 20 minutes. Was slowed down due to the left to right thing. It's not solveable unless you assume that the house numbers go left to right but didn't want to make that assumption if I could avoid it.
Also missed an obvious bit regarding the Dane as I'd crossed that off.
Very good little puzzle.
You too, Dogman. Have a tremendous night, with tremendous dreams!
Am I the only one who did tons of puzzles like this in math classes in elementary/middle school? From the looks of these posts it seems like most of you are seeing this kind of puzzle for the first time.
Take it easy, wrongochap.Reading this thread, I come up with the exact opposite conclusion. In fact most people are used to this type of riddles (why would you think they are not?), and obviously everybody who clicked on this thread is interested in them. Hence your assumption is wrong, and in my experience, people who are condescending ('am I the only one who know anything about this? I'm so special!') are the ones who have limited brain power and have to run their big mouths in order to compensate for that fact.

haha this totally reminds me of this website i went to one time called iq land or something. basically it was a bunch of less then intelligent nerds who were all bragging about there high IQ's and how they could solve riddles. problem with guys like this is they don't tell you about the 90% of riddles they read that they guessed wrong, they just remember the correct ones and assume they are smart. also i am 50% that this is a troll as this guy sounds alot younger then someone who has an 18yo daughter.
ps. sidenote, i told this riddle to a class of 20 students and asked them to submit a guess on paper then to solve the riddle, 14/24 of them guessed the german, so theory that people just assume this because thats where albert was from or because its at the end of the puzzle may be correct!
I timed it and it took me 27 minutes and 53 seconds. I messed up at the beginning and had to start over because I had the Norwegian with the dogs, and I immediately realized i messed up somewhere. That was a fun riddle!!
Haha... it's impossible to tell who is a troll, who is a countertroll...
If the guy and his daughter really could solve the riddle instantly, they wouldn't be able to explain it. Asking such a person to explain it would be like asking someone with a photographic memory or a prodigy in music or art how he/she does it... for the most part, it just happens, even if there is a bit of process involved. Their "logic" would be exactly the same as the logic of those who wrote out the tables, it's just that they would have such a high ability to process data that they could do it in their heads with no effort. There is no "trick" to the puzzle that a genius could use to solve it quickly... process of elimination is the only possible method.
That said, there is no way that anyone who is not a savant of some sort could solve it "instantly" and mentally. Daniel Tammet, a mildly autistic and synaesthetic savant who memorized and correctly recited after only a few weeks of effort over 22,000 digits of pi and who learned Icelandic, one of the world's most challenging languages, in a week, or someone like Tammet, would have a shot. But no one with a typical brain, even a a truly brilliant mathematician or philosopher, could do it.
very well said... conclusion, dogman needs to grasp reality
