1939 - Spitfire - the plane that won the battle of britain.

1951 Comet - the world's first jetliner (490mph)

One area of success that Britain has sustained since the war has been in aero engines.

The inventor of the jet engine was an RAF officer names Frank Whittle - but typically, he received little official support for his invention and the Germans were the first to actually fly a jet-engined aircraft.

Rolls-Royce, the famous prestige motor manufacturer started making aircraft engines and were responsible for powering many of WW2’s successful aircraft, including the Spitfire, Mosquito and the Lancaster bomber. The American Mustang was an indifferent plane until it was fitted with a Roll-Royce Merlin engine which turned it into probably the best US fighter of WW2.

Roll-Royce went on to develop the jet engine and it’s engines are now in use in most of the world’s airliners.

Incidentally, the insane socialist government we mistakenly voted in in the 45 election, handed over to the Soviets a batch of the latest Rolls-Royce jet engines, which the Soviets copied and used to power their MiG fighters that fought your Sabre jet fighters over Korea during that war.
