Why no college students at college track meets?

I always thought it would be pretty cool if during half time of a big football game they have put on something cool like a 4x4 or mile, if the stadium has a track on the outside of the field. I think the band half time shows are pretty damn lame, and most people would like this.

I think the thought is better than the actual event. My college used to have the xc meet finish on the 50 yard line at half time of the football game. The guys on the team hated it! They dreaded it and actually begged the coach to stop it.

i never understood why they didn't have a "spectator friendly" meet at least once a year. I think indoors would be especially good for this. Have some sort of promotion (happy hour with the runners and other spectators at a bar later if you show a ticket stub, etc). Runners would be able to get their non running friends to go more easily, they in turn might bring some friends too, etc.

Play up some local rivalries, get a rabbit or two for a national qualifying attempt/school record attempt, etc. Have only one heat of all the events so they could be filed thorugh within two hours or so. Turn off the lights, introduce the runners to music and spotlights, even play music while they're running. The kicker would be to have a knowledgable, exciting commentator explaining things to the crowd (I always thought Drake relays was so spectator friendly because of this).

The unversity operates t + f at a loss, the students might as well see what they're paying for once a year...
