Nate Jenkins training - 190 mile week smart?

I've never run a marathon, so I don't know....

But exaggerated volume would seem beneficial at least as part of the training cycle. Until a marathoner has no problem holding an even, fast pace throughout and doesn't struggle over the last 10K, then it'd seem beneficial to build volume. Easy to say, I know.

What works for some doesn't work for others. If logging high mileage is what it takes then that's what he's got to do.

It doesn't have to be so complex. Nobody is trying to make a hero out of Nate, he's just trying to run the best he can while he's in his prime.

End of story. Let the man train, I'm pretty sure he's run fast enough to prove he just may know what he's doing.

Plus who doesn't love running with girls, they are hot!

That is unclear. If you are already running 70+ mpw you might be a lot better off doing more MP training (8-10 mp at the end of your 20 miler and so on). Mileage is just one tool for building endurance.

I run with Nate from time to time.... he's got some great hair going on right now. Because of this hair, I feel he knows what he is doing.

Isn't Nate just the greatest? I mean seriously, what a stud.

Listen the part where he tells us how the higher mileage didn't result in a better performance. Small sample size but there is a reason why everyone isn't running 200 mpw.

nate do you base any of their training of the new zealanders???? i highly believe in taking the recovery runs slow and when you feel good pushing the pace while running 90 miles a week...only 19........a lot of people dont understand mileage works. the best way to get better is not reading a book but listening to your body and intelligently knowing when to push the pace and when to recover...you my friend have mastered this technique and i wish you much success in the future....i hope to follow in your steps one day after college
