Symmonds to not race until Olympics

It was crazy in Eugene and he expended a lot of energy. An athlete, especially one at this level knows his body and what is good for him.

He, his coach, and manager know what calls to make. They have engineered his career well so far...why second guess them now?

It wouldn't make any sense for a coach who thought his athlete was a medal contender. Keep in mind the Amerians who HAVE been racing in Europe: Wariner, Merritt, Richards, Felix, Lagat, Teg, Rowbury, Crawford, Doc Patton, Travis Padgett. These are all legitimate medal contenders...and they've all been sharpening with competition in Europe.

But here's the rub. In the Monaco 800, two people ran just barely slower than Johnny Gray's AR. So far this year 4 people have run times faster than any American EVER except Gray, and another is close to that.

Now, there's Symmonds. He has made an international final only once in his life--the indoor champs this year. He finished DFL in that final, and with a gap to the next slowest runner large enough to suggest he didn't belong in that final.

But when Symmonds and Wheating get to Beijing, they're not going to be able to hide out any longer. They're going to have to go against people capable of not 1:46, but 1:42. And Symmonds won't be able to surprise Borz with his kick a second time.

Game over.
