Justin Gatlin runs 4.42 at NFL Pro Day

I have watch Gatlin run for years and have been around track since 13yrs. old as well.

I have to agree with the person that said he probably gained some weight because I had a great college career and when training to turn pro. I gained weight and I could never run as good until I dropped the weight. Track athletes are not as big as they look on T.V. so yes Trindon Holliday ran 4.2 in basketball shoes my brother was there when he did it but we both coach high school track and he coached college Trindon Holliday is no Justin Gatlin so please do not let that 40 time fool you into believing he is slow.

I don't know if you're aware, but you can use periods to separate your sentences. It makes your posts easier to read.

The NFL does NOT use electronic timing at the combine. It is just a bunch of good 'ole boys with stopwatches and it always will be. Not as accurate as SPARQ or any photo-eye/touchpad based system, but hand times are faster and hence, more appealing to dumb-ass scouts.

4.4 is really slow for a guy that prides himself on speed. That would be about avg for a DB/WR. Honestly, it's kind of embarrassing for track and field to watch their best athlete get destroyed in what they do best by guys who couldn't care less about track.

Really? I thought they switched to electronic timing in recent years. Why do they list times to the one-hundreth if it's hand-timed?

A human cannot run 4.57 in a backwards 40. Sure he could run pretty fast. But no way could he run within a half second of his forward time. Totally impossible.

Because 100m dash sprinters are required to hold their form longer than football players running the 40 yard dash, Plus in many of Gatlin\'s races he doesn\'t pull away until the last 35 meters, so 40 yards isn\'t enough for Gatlin to reach his top long striding speed.

Gatlin should race those two-wheel bicycles like Lance Armstrong, the King of the PED Ingesters.

I was an 800m runner in college and played football, my 40m was 4.4, in fact, our entire backfield averaged 4.5 including the QB. Subtract the QB and our 220 lbs fullback and we averaged 4.4. Also, I never broke 22 in the 200.

I was surprised to see myself quoted in the thread. I remember posting that. No way Deion ran even close to 4.5 or whatever in a backwards 40. MAYBE something like 5.0 but probably not.

I was a 800 guy in High school and ran a 4.31 40 my freshmen year. Gatlin’s time is pathetic for an Olympic/World champ. He may have been on PEDs but this guy should be naturally fast. This is really embarrassing for track actually. No wonder the sport gets no respect. Ask a "track star" to line up and demonstrate his speed and you got to make excuses when he runs slow. Like what you hear from most of the pros after a race. Oh we haven't worked on speed as yet or we're just training through this race. I remember we had a rule. Never race anyone unless it was on the track and in a meet. There was a reason for that. Who wants to be the "track star" that gets blown away by the baseball pitcher?

WTF??? Like half the top ten guys at World XC could perform as well in the 40 as Gatlin did. That is just so horrible. I would says he tanked his speed in favor of weights/size/agility, but that doesn't even begin to explain how he could suck so much balls. If I were him, I would have just hung my head in shame and found the nearest exit. I cannot believe this toolbag had the nerve to finish the other tests after crapping out such a pathetic time! I also would have had the decency to claim that I was out of shape and injured. That way, I would at least save some face for Track and Field. But oh ya... forgot... he doesn't care about us. Way to completely humiliate us dipshit...

That is not that good. I did the same except faster 4.3x3 my vert was 39 But he beat in Athens.lol I did get signed by World and Canada.
