I've worked in food service for some time, and I've served plenty of douches, but I would never use a customers behavior as an excuse for theft. If they're really being that bad, throw them out. If not, suck it up. Both of our jobs pay a shit ton of money for jobs that require no skills other than very basic social skills and the ability to pour liquids. Sure, I have to deal with a few douches every shift as a waiter, but I can also pull down $20-$30 per hour to do a job that requires no degree. As a bartender, you probably do better than me. If it's not worth dealing with douches to make good cash for a job that's really not all that difficult, you need to find another job. Resorting to theft isn't the proper response.

You're obviously not the bar owner. It's one thing to give out free drinks now and then to regulars (any smart bartender or owner will do that), but if i ever saw one of my tenders giving out $50 worth of free drinks, their ass is fired. you're just stealing from me at that point!

At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint-and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in "pints" and who was drinking in "quarts," hence the term minding your 'P's and Q's,"
