I see your point. However, here is my $0.02 worth. I don't have an issue with making the standard lower. My issue is that the men's and women's stardard are not equal. You have men under 2:20 with the "A" standard and a paid trip. Those that run 2:20:01 - 2:22:00 and get the "B" standard and must pay their own way, but, it is only 2 minutes from the "A" standard.
For the women you have a gap of 2:39 and under for the "A" standard and a free paid trip all the way to 2:49 for the "B" standard and having to pay your own way. That is a difference of 10 minutes. Who came up with this formula. I am a male and hate to see such a one sided lean towards helping the men more that the women.
I would be the first to say the 2:49 is way to slow to even be in the trials. Something more fair and one that compares to the men would be: (IMO)
2:43:00 and under is the "A" standard to 2:45 (the same 2 minutes as the men) is the "B" standard.
If you look at how many men made the "A" standard for the trials and compare it to how many women have made the "A" standard for the women and it is 2-1.
