I believe Ryun split 49x on the last 400 of a 1500 or mile and he split 51x many times. Besides maybe Coe, he probably had the best raw speed of any miler in history. Probably what’s even more impressive is Filbert Bayi going out in 49x and managing to hang on for 2nd or 3rd in a world class race.

It's much more impressive to me that Bekele ran as faster than (12:57.24) Bob Kennedy's American Record for the last half of the 2003 World Championship 10000.
Run 62.2 average/lap for 12.5 laps in a 10000, not 50 for the last one.
