I recall running 15 miles on new years day in 1970. Ran my fastest 400 in hs. fastest 800 in college, seriously trained for marathons at age 30 and peaked at 80 mpw. More than that and I would break down. Pr'd in the mile-marathon at age 30 and 31. Now barely jog at age 53. I may get serious again but I doubt it.
Old Buzzard,
I'm turning 53 next month. I believe I detect a little yearning, maybe a little gas left in the tank. I think the fact you left running might serve you well for your return. Throw the old records out the window. Start anew. You're a jogger now with the heart of a competitive runner fighting to come out.
Go for it you might surprise yourself.

14:36 5k
23:38 8k
29:56 10k
39:13 8 mile
50:06 10 mile
It was all easy...at the time.
Now 46 and a sub 17 min 5k is a strong effort.
Still having fun! The spirit never changes...just the intensity.

At what age were you the fastest?
I think I set all my PR's in the fallopian tube, gotten slower ever since.

All road
5k - 21 (14:55)
5 miles - 24 (24:11)
10k - 24 (30:34)
10 miles - 31 (50:38)
half marathon - 31 (67:12)
marathon - 29 (2:23.22)
Succession of injuries numbed my racing enthusiasm, due to the need to get out and earn a decent wage to support the family I didn't have during my peak running years. I'm now 33.
I'm not sure it's the body that 'goes' first, just the urge to race like there's no tomorrow all the time in the face of other challenges (i.e. work).
I like to think it when I was 15. I could hit a 2:05 800, 4:50 Mile, 17:00 5k, 35 min 10k, and a 56 second 400m.
Of course, I shattered all those PR's, but I could never really establish as good of a range as I had in that year. I could hit 1:55 for the 800 but never while in sub-15:00 5k shape. I guess it was just the training emphasis.

I PRed at 800m at 24, 1500m at 28, 3000m at 33, 5000m at 34, 10000m at 29, Half Marathon at 35.
28 to 29 years old. I am 33 now but I haven't given up. I am getting close to my PRs again after recovery from various injuries.
800 and mile PR's happened when I was 21-22 in college. 5k and 10k (29:35, which I knew after I crossed the line I would never run faster ever) PR's at 24-25. I dabbled in the Marathon pacing firends but ran a serious attempts after that at 27.
Now I'm married, 15 pounds over my racing weight and lucky if I get in one race a year, usually a marathon in 2:30-2:40 range off of 40-50 miles a week. Gotta love being a grown up and making mortgage payments. Love having money but I miss those days...
