Nelson has gotta be near 11 flat in the 100, you guys dont realize how athletic us throwers are.
Theres a video of oldfield absolutely ROCKING a worldclass female sprinter in a 60m

Nelson would crush him. Maybe if we were talking Hicham (in his prime of course) or someone like Lomong or Solinsky (in a couple years) then the distance runner would MAYBE stand a chance. MAYBE.
I would actually like to see Lomong in a decathlon, if I remember right he used to be an exceptional jumper in high school as well.
You guys seriously underestimate Nelson. I am certain that he is capable of running close to, if not faster than 11.0 for 100m. In conjunction with his awesome hops, he could probably run a comparable time in the 110 hurdles with a little practice. 22-23 feet for the LJ, 6'6 for the HJ, and probably a world-class mark in any throw. I am sure Haile can run a repectable 100m (I give him 11.5) but the ONLY events he can beat Nelson in are the 400m and 1500m.
I will go as far as to say that Nelson could quickly become a world-class decathlete if he trained for the multievent competition.

Wow, you guys are out there. Nelson weighs about twice what Geb weighs. In any discipline where you have to propel your own body upward or foward that is a HUGE disadvantage. Granted he has excellent explosive strength, but you can't seriously think that compensates for weight in a long jump or high jump.
Apparnetly, you missed this post:

Nelson in a blowout.
Back in 2000 I was doing some strides (in spikes) at the Stanford track where I trained. Adam, was doing some sprinting and challenged me to a 100. I was in really good shape at the time - I had just run under 13:30 for 5000 meters, and basically said, "Bring it on fat man!"
From a standing start I said go, and after about three strides Adam had 15 meters on me. At 50 meters I really thought there was no way I was going to get him. By about 80 he was tying up, and to my recollection (though possibly not his) I just nipped him at the line. Again, I was really fit at the time and almost blew out a hamstring to get him.
At the end of his sprinting workout we both ran 12.2 seconds (hand time of course [my watch]).
You have no idea how powerful and explosive these guys are.
If he's as fast and athletic as you say, why is he wasting his time as a thrower? A guy of his size and apparent speed and agility could be making tens of millions in the NFL.

Perhaps he loves track more. Lots of reasons.
I can definetly buy that. Hell, we had a decent shot putter on my college team that was roughly 6'2"/240lbs and that guy could get the f*** out of the blocks. I doubt he could run a decent 400m time, but in the 100 he had some serious speed.
The elite throwers I know of did play football. One was a very good football player but just wasn't mean enough to play the position he needed to at his size. The other didn't want to screw up his body for the rest of his life and gave it up after college. Another one of the freaks I know didn't play football and is nowhere wild enough to play.

OMG, that's so weird. The exact same thing happened to me. Except it was Abraham Lincoln and he challenged me to a drinking contest. Buy you know, same thing basically. And just as true that it happened.
I took bigfoot on in a hotdog eating contest. He rigged up at the end and I beat him by two hotdogs.
Adam Nelson going 11:xx on 100??? Damn, I'll have some of those mushrooms. And didn't Dick Cheney just run 2:45 at Boston?
This is obviously a bunch of 17-year-olds overcome with calf-envy, who think that everybody who's serious can go 10.4 and that throwers are studs because they occasionally get some tail - off chicks who won't look twice at scrawny little 9:58 two-milers.
Look, there aren't that many runners over 30 who run sub-12, let alone a big pile of meat who freakishly short limbs like AN. The guy couldn't break 14 if his life depended on it. Going sub-60 on a 400 is even funnier. Dear Lord some people are delusional.

I would bet you $1,000 that Nelson could break 14 seconds for 100m.
You're on.
Now what?

Go to his website and ask him what he has run.
http://www.throwclean.com/I guess I should explain: he has a message board on the site (and actually posts on it), and I'm sure he has run a timed 100 at some point in his life.
And after you've done that, go over to Geb's message board and ask him what he throws in the discus...
This thread has been totally enjoyable and humorous.
Did you know that Brian Oldfield has high jumped 6-5?
And just curious. Who do you think is a better athlete, Tiger Woods or Roger Federer?
