Course description is in Moore's "Bowerman and the Men of Oregon". How did your marathon debut go?
It went very well! I was only 90+ seconds shy of the qualifier. I felt I ran a super conservative race and never really tried to push the pace. We had a solid pack of 'B qualifier hopefuls' through halfway hitting about 6:15-20 (~1:22+), but by about 15-18 miles some women fell back/dropped out. I got separated from a few of the ladies/pacers by about 18-20 miles, so it was a little rough mentally being on my own from 18 and on. I rallied a little the last 3 miles and narrowed the gap on the lady in front of me. Never really hit a 'wall', but I also didn't push myself when I started getting tired at about 18. That will be the difference between running 2:40-2:44 and 2:48. Overall, it was an enjoyable race and I'd recommend it! I would have liked to run more of the race on the roads-- the times likely would have been quicker too.
I'll have to check out Moore's book. Thank you.
