A buddy and I were doing intervals(I can't remember, but I assume 800's) on a track near a psychiatric hospital. At 300, we saw a woman running into the parking lot, by 350 we saw a police vehicle chasing her down. She continued to run towards the track (which circled the football field) as we continued our second lap. By the time we reached 700, the security guards were chasing her as she climbed the stands of the stadium and jumped! We heard the thud with 50 m to go. She had some broken bones. Security had to call an ambulance. She was crying in pain, security was comforting her.
We did cooldown lap and proceeded with another 800. The ambulance and town police and other security came but we just kept on running.
To this day, we both acknowledge that we are awful human beings. We never went to ask if we could help, to assist in anyway. I do wonder if I would have stopped to help if it were a regular run, placing the workout in a more protected status. The sound of the body hitting the ground is something I also will remember.
This was at least 12 years ago and obviously, not a proud moment.
