tempo runs make treadmill not so boring. I've run up to 15 miles on a treadmill while doing stuff like 5 X (10 minutes tempo, 2 min easy)+warmup and cooldown.
A mixed-pace run like that is less boring than an easy one half the length.

14 miles last week. I did mile repeats and listened to a Podrunner podcast (180 bpm). The scenery at the Y didn't hurt.
I agree that mixed pace on the TM is easier on the mind. I've done 16-17 miles in mid-winter but the most mind-numbing thing I've done was a 2 hr 35 min "long run" in the pool a few years back when I was injured.
I run on a treadmill every day. I find its a lot easier on my legs than outdoors and so I'm able to cover more miles. I listen to upbeat songs on my iPod and that makes a big difference. I read that Salazar once ran 35 miles on a treadmill in preparation for his Comrades Marathon win and that he ran about half his miles on a treadmill before that race. I have run 2 1/2 hours on a treadmill and I always put in a 2 hour run on Sundays which is generally about 12 miles. I have a hard time running any really fast speed stuff on the treadmill (fear of falling).
Easy 6 miles in 46:30....
it isn't too bad if you have a tv and a sports games. Just tell yourself to only look at the clock every quarter of the basketball game. Not a bad long run.
Several 3hr runs - marathon training. Also, 90 sec. - mile repeats move the clock. I used to put the tredmill near the open basement door, crank up some Flogging Molly and run myself into a coma. I'm thinking of getting another one; I killed the last deck and belt. (Sears) I prefer the isolation of a treadmill - also, it's always there when I'm so inclined - w/ no elements to deal with or extra clothes needed.
I ran 15 miles at 730 a mile pace 4 days in a row last winter in the winter i live on a TM.........
50 minutes.
What I don't understand is that I could watch an interesting programme on V for an hour and not be bored.
If I'm on a treadmill watching that programme, I'm not sure the same holds. I just want to stop.
15.
Running on a treadmill doesn't bother me in the least. I enjoy running on a scenic trail as much as the next guy, but I don't run to look at the flora and fauna. I run to . . . run. I just doesn't bother me at all.
I have a treadmill in our basement with a 36" fan in front of it and CD player full of classic rock. Heading in to this time of year, with the shorter days, a demanding career, a wife, two young daughters (8 and almost 5) if it weren't for my treadmill, I'd rarely get to run.
My days of running in the pitch dark on ice are long gone. This 42-year-old body breaks too easily.

agree for all the same reasons. i never understood those people that said they got bored running on a treadmill. weren't they still running?
15 miles a few times. I actually LIKE doing longish runs on the 'mill.
22 miles
Often wouldn't get to run because of kid-duties, so the treadmill is my only choice. (See Ingrid Kristiansen's training!)
I watch videos (running or even full-length feature films.) Goes by quickly.

exactly. I'm amazed at the number of people on here the must just run to look at the scenery.
I think I'm starting figure out why we underperform in this country. Too many "running tourists", not enough RUNNERS.
If you're a RUNNER, you don't care if you're on the beach, a mountain, a country road, a city street or a treadmill in some dingy basement lit by a single light bulb. All you care about is your run.
I think the farthest I've gone is about 4 feet before I fell off the rubber part. That was after I had to remove that part with the handles that was sticking up in the front because it was always in the way. Frankly I didn't see the attraction. It seemed easier to just run in circles around my trailer house.
20 minutes on a cruise ship once. It was so boring, I went back to running on the steel deck of the ship and haven't run on a treadmill since. I sort of understand using the treadmill when the weather's horrible, but I can't comprehend people who'd rather run inside than outside on a nice day. To each his own, I guess. In the old days, if the weather stunk, I didn't care and would run anyway, now I just take the day off and get fat.

Or, more granularly, "What's the longest distance you have ever run on a treadmill without the aid of intoxicants?" I don't doubt I could do four or five hours at a low speed and incline, if I had a few stiff drinks and a television set to help me pass the time. That would be 20-30 miles. But it would be wrong.
