michael johnson won the 200 and 400 in back to back olympics so you're wrong in saying he never won a major championship in that event (400).

He said "the 100 and the 400"
Hey dumbass. I said this guy is straight outta college. Liu Xing xang has only been on the scene a couple years. J Gatlin running at world class level straight outta college. JJJohnson, Carl Lewis breaking records in college the list goes on and on of college boys whoopin' the "pro's".
5k and 10k records were broken due to heavy doping by the poorest of the poor who have nothing to lose and don't give a f*^% about ethics.
I don't give a damn when the last 200 record was broke. Sprints are pathetic because this KID is breaking the records. It is all talent and not hard work.
You took the words right out of my keyboard!

Is the original poster claiming that the NCAAs are a major championship? (i.e. on the same level as an Olympics, World Champs, or even Commonwealth Games?) I think not.

I'm sure he works very hard. You don't run 44.5 without a lot of very high level training.

Hey dumbass you are the one mentioning world records
Maybe even MJ by the end of the summer.

All the world's best 200 sprinters of all time just got schooled by some kid fresh out of college.

I believe the 200m is a sprint. In the last 35 years its been broken 3 times? I haven't done math in a while, but I do not believe that works out to be every couple years. The only sprint event that seems to be broken more frequently is the 100m. How young was the 5k/10k world record holder when he set those records? hmmm ohh yeah that's right you answered that he is poor and doesn't have ethics.... how do you know that?

1. It is no longer, nor has it ever been cool to quote David Chapelle.
2. It is obvious you're some pimply skinny distance dweeb jealous of how much ass sprinters get compared to distance runners. The very fact that you don't think sprinters work hard not only insults the entire sprinting community, but unmasks your blatant shortcomings in understanding our sport.
You bitches cry and moan about no one caring about our sport, and then take every opportunity to blast people who don't run your events. You guys are pathetic.
At least most of the sprinters on boards like trackshark, even the grammatically challenged ones, are generally respectful, and interested in the overall advancement of our sport.
You're a sad excuse for a runner.

I believe Henry Rono set alot of records while in college in distance events, but of course those records weren't sprints so he had to train harder.
Also, I must apologize for making what seems like sweeping generalizations. I realize that there are a lot of decent people on this board, but it's the loser trolls like this one that tarnishes the reputation of the running community.
Simply put, you obviously never had to train for a sprint at a world class level. Keep running your easy 40min runs every day to make your dick three inches longer than it really is.

1:44.92 good for ......9th!!
Is that the fastest 9th place time ever? Might be.
Canadian record in the 800 of 1:44.16 by Gary Reed.
It was definitley a fast day.
There is no way that Ethiopian kid is 16 or 17 running 7:32.
Sprinters do work hard. They don't spend nearly as much time running endless miles like we do, but they do hours of drills and weights. I can't believe any distance runner would think sprinter do not work hard. I mean look at Justin Gaitlin, he has to carry around the 2000 lb ego of his all day. I mean that is inspiring.

Yeah, I like kneejerk responses too.
Gatlin is probably the LEAST egotistical sprinter out there since Mike Marsh.
Every time I hear a post-race interview with Gatlin, I'm amazed at how polite and humble he is. For example, when asked about winning the $100,000 Visa championship series, Gatlin said something like, "I'm excited to win it and donate it to people who need it." Then he said something about it reflecting well on the help he gets from family and friends. He could have said, "That may be big money for other track athletes, but it's no big deal for me." Or he could have said, "I'm the greatest ever, and I'm going to blow the money on a new car." I thought his answer was perfect.
By the way, at the end of the interview he politely thanked USATF and USADA and the sponsors for all they do for the sport. My wife (not a big track fan) even commented on how he came across in the interview.

The NCAA championships are not as big as Olympics or Worlds, but the sprints at the NCAA are as big as any other Championship.
In the Commonwealth Games, with X-Man's NCAA performance, he would have received:
2006:
100m - Silver
400m - Gold
4x100 - Silver
4x400 - Silver
2002:
100m - Silver
400m - Gold
4x100 - Gold
4x400 - 4th
That Commonwealth Games really scares th X-Man!

When it comes to sprinting, the NCAA championships ranks as the Debutantes Ball of our sport. For a huge percentage of the Olympic sprint medalists, the NCAAs was their coming out.
In comparison, the Commonwealth Games is a Tijuana pony show.

You might want to check out this URL
http://www.sprintology.com.au/200m%20Wind-Altitude%20Correction%20Calculator.htm
A considerable amount of research has been done on the affect of altitude, temperature, humidity and lane assignment for 200m and other sprints. Google sprint altitude adjustment calculators and you can find the explanation of physics and statistics used for this calculator.
Running at 2000 ft elevation and in lane 8 has a considerable impact on time. 0.09 seconds according to the theories.
my conspiracy theory is that the peak of the international season this year is july 8th to september 3rd, the top athletes are peaked and ready for this 8 week block and we will see more incredible times friday in rome.

Learn to use that calculator. The effect of 600m altitde and lane 8 is only 0.063 seconds.
0.063 = effect of altitude plus lane 8 (19.692 adjust)
0.092 = effect of altitde, lane 8 and .4m/s wind (19.721)
0.063 is not "considerable amount of time"
