I tentatively thought he could do this, and I think I said as much after his earlier races, but it is still so great to see him running this well again. It means he's healthy and in shape, probably has a pb in him this season, and most importantly, now he can build on his fitness. Can't wait to see what the future holds for him.
Altitude actually helps 800m runners, albeit most of them not much. This has been known since the ‘68 Olympics in Mexico City.
No, it actually doesn't. Altitude helps 400 runners but not 800 runners.
Wrong. It has no discernable negative effects. Look at how many runners PR’d in Mexico City alone as the guy noted. Look at Kenya’s 2024 Olympic Trials and other National Finals there. Look at races that have been run at BYU and other ‘altitude’ schools. Altitude (up to a mile or so) is zip as a negative factor in 800m running, seems to slightly aid or have zero effect on others. But nothing negative.
The guys who hate Newbury Park and Brosnan are in shambles. Same guys who would pile on Rheinhardt Harrison.
"Not a big deal."
Lol he clearly has so much room to grow, this is a guy who was chasing his older brother (beat Brazier and Hoppel at Millrose) down in 800's in hs. Aaron Sahlman is at minimum a 3:35 in the 1500m if he maintains consistency and health, especially when Colin is at minimum a 3:29 guy.
We're in a era where runners are more likely to try to comeback compete at a high level. The shoes and the advances in physical therapy and conditioning have contributed to this. It felt rare to see this many talents trying to make comebacks in the past, a lot of guys who fell off in the past were complacent with just being 4:12/1:53 guys because it would still score at most meets.
