But so too have the UK, and it has 4 times less population. In fact, Scotland with its 5 million population compared to the USA's 342 million has done proportionately far better. Given the resources that the US pours into track compared to the UK or Scotland, the USA has done quite terribly. The USA has had medals, but very few golds. Or at least not proportionately more golds in relation to your much larger population.
And the US collegiate programme is just very, very strange. Its so odd to see adult males discuss young teenage girl's appearance in detail, but even stranger that you burn so many out before they get to become seniors. You must lose so many good athletes due to injury and burnout when they should be getting nurtured and developed as athletes. Jane Hedengren is a wonderful talent but no coach on this side of the pond would be encouraging her to race nearly every weekend indoors or all year round. Indoors is particularly a risk for causing injury.
And where is the US coaching for someone like Nuguse? Has he never been coached so as to correct his arm swing - his arms literally flap about in front of his body, instead of driving him forwards. He looks like someone who has taken up running in mid life without having any speed coaching and it really stands out as poor coaching in a field of elite athletes on the track.
