Why did she always run on the outside of lane 1 on the bends????
Because she is very stubborn. She even ran that way when there were no other runners near her. Some people just enjoy being stubborn.
That's what I mean. Go watch her races. All 4 bends. She'd be 20m ahead and running on the line between lanes 1 and 2 on the final bend. She probably ran 810m on average in her biggest races. Her AR could've been a second faster. It's insane and I never see anyone talking about it. VALIDATE ME.
As others have pointed out, sometimes when an athlete achieves all they want to in a such short space of time at such a young age, if that's their primary ambition, moving the goalposts and setting new targets just doesn't motivate them enough to keep wanting to go to the well for more.
It's Mu's life, she has zero obligation to keep racing because people demand it of her. Sure, there's a lot of potential being flushed down the toilet, but the sport will move on, with or without her.
Its a "never say never" thing for me. Talent really never goes away, and she quite simply one of the most talented athletes to touch the track as of recently. She's also only 23, and a lot can change in a year. Maybe she'll have a kid and then come back to the sport, who knows.
Lets be honest, there's absolutely no doubt that, with the right coach and approach, Mu could get back to her best form again. Her problem these last few years has been Kersee's ridiculous training programme (no 400s, but 1500s and a bl00dy 5k!) But going back to being a 400/800 athlete would see her back at her best.
The issue now appears to be there is no training group or set-up near her, so we assume she isn't training. Is this because she has chucked in the towel? Maybe. It would be very sad if that's the case.
The other problem she has is the event has caught up with her, such that she doesn't have seconds advantage over the field, they are not scared of her, and she wouldn't be allowed to dominate from the gun, which she did at her best. So if she does come back, she needs to learn multiple race tactics. That would be a problem for her.
But that kind of talent doesn't disappear over night. The will to compete does though, unfortunately.

i didn't like Kersee for her, but I don't blame him anymore. Her head just wasn't in it. Isn't in it.
Wasn't this same topic posted 12 months ago but about brazier?
Brazier's problem was injury. Athing Mu's problem is mental.
Alysa Liu had a similar problem, stopped competing for two years, and came back to win the world championship last year and Olympic gold last night after rediscovering her joy for her sport. I hope Mu was watching.
Athing now lives in a relatively modest condo in a city with no professional training group. However, there are three facilities with 400-meter tracks, all just a 30-minute drive away.
There is also a six-lane track only half a mile from her home, with an in-house “Speed Trainer & Athletic Performance Coach,” a former basketball player.
So either Athing is training in true Spartan fashion for an epic 400m comeback, or she is truly done with her career.
This post is kind of creepy.
Can you tell me a) How you know where she lives when you are posting from Europe?
Please post a response or email me or I'm going to delete the post -

I know a lot of things about a lot of track people around the world. Feel free to delete the post, if it's against your policy. I would never disclose exact location though and the post is not meant to be misused. Just letting know that she does have facilities nearby, therefore she has possibility to train, or at least keep fit, if she wants to - hope for comeback is alive.
Brazier is not weak of mind when it comes to his track goals.... unlike Mu
What goals would she even have at this point? Literally almost every kid I know that was from the young AAU circuit hated running because they get burnt out.
I'm talking about people who went on to at least run in college too. She is one of them. Running track all winter, spring, and summer from age 6 - 21. The whole time being no stranger to winning national titles, setting age group records, Wins ncaa runner up at 400m then NCAA title outdoors in the 400. Then the Olympics in 2 events. Then lastly a world title. The only thing she hadn't won. All that's left is to either lose or maybe a WR. But simply looking at the photo of the current 800m wr holder that also looks extremely unmotivating 🤣😂
she won 35/36 races in 2021
I'm not alarmed if she said running isn't as motivating. There are other things in life.
