If I was a Fleet Feet corporate employee, I'd be pissed.
Probably wasn't ever posted as a job opening for anyone else even.
Why should they be pissed.
If they didn't post the job, i can understand. She's a celebrity. People want to talk to her a conferences. Randoms want to hear her talk at a running store.
People are just jealous they can't get a job like this.
it's a made up job. basically a "celebrity" brand ambassador. how the hell could anybody be jealous over a job created specifically for that person. anybody jealous over something like this is at least borderline on the spectrum.

Why? If she generates revenue for the company then they are also better off.
There is no requirement for a private entity to "post" a job.
Agreed. It also seems to be the case that if you are the Goat of your generation you just might have a leg up for certain jobs. I hate to break it to people. Michael Jordan doesn't have to fill out an application and submit references at Nike.
If the internal company policy goes through, it's possible some of them might be fired. Depending on the location, at least. New employees won't be nearly as knowledgeable. Takes months to be trained properly.
If you want the real answer. They'd probably be pissed because most people in the storefront are getting paid less than industry average to do more than industry average work. If it was posted as an internal position, and other people applied, but someone grabbed swooped into grab it with full knowledge it was theirs. Makes it clear people outside the store take more precedence than those inside it. Even if its a good strategic move, why list it in the first place if they knew they were going with Simpson?

No one at FF knows who she is. This isn't MJ.
The greatest female middle distance runner in U.S. history and people in the business don't know who she is? I'd like to think that FF employees are not that ignorant.

The absolutely are. FF is not a track nerd store, it's become a retail store. Most employees do not and have never followed the top level of the sport. They only know how to upsell socks and inserts.
This thread and the link description on the home page are underhanded cheap shots at Simpson. Why do Brojos and many on this website have such an animus against Simpson? I met her years ago and she is one of the nicest sweetest people I’ve ever met. I don’t get it. Who cares that she has put off some kind of boring career until being in her forties? Running at her level for so long was indeed a career. I don’t get the hate, it must be some kind of jealousy. If I saw any evidence over the years that Jenny Simpson was the @#$hole you people make her out to be, I would reevaluate. But instead all I’ve seen from her is honesty and determination.
I fail to see the “cheap shot” on the front page. It looks pretty straightforward clickbait to me. There don’t appear to be many cheap shots in this thread, and certainly none by the Rojo crew.
“And she’s entered the real world with a job”. Quoted verbatim from the home page. It was absolutely a cheap shot. They are attempting to instigate by implying that Simpson somehow has dodged having a real job and has avoided adult responsibilities, despite the fact that she is a multi time global finals medalist who paved the way for other American women distance runners. Besides having an enormous double standard (Galen Rupp is still competing despite being over 40), these people have always had something against Jenny going all the way back to her years at CU. What did she do wrong?

This is determined by your vantage point. They could simply be expressing admiration that Jenny was “living the dream” as a world class runner well into her mid 30s or whatever. Maybe they don’t think of world class running as “the real world.” I don’t see it as an insult to Jenny, but I think people can be offended by just about anything these days.

No, if they wanted to be neutral journalists they wouldn’t have used real world to describe starting her new career. It was clearly intended as a slight.

People like you will end up chilling free speech due to your super sensitivity. I am a liberal but I struggle with people like you wanting everyone to walk on eggshells to avoid offending anyone.

I at no point claimed that Letsrun should be forbidden to exercise its First Amendment rights to unfairly criticize Jenny Simpson. I simply was stating that they are indeed unfairly criticizing her, exercising my free speech to criticize them. Disagreeing with someone’s speech and pointing out errors and hypocrisy is not the same as saying that their speech should be suppressed. Those are two entirely different things. They can in fact say what they feel. I’m not stepping on their rights by saying that I don’t agree with them.

What is the unfair criticism? Saying that she is entering the real world with a job? Well that sure is some stinging disparagement. Jenny had a decorated running career. The Brojos know this and have recognized it. She was really good and they know she was living in the real world. It is just an expression to many of us.

It was a clear slight my friend. You don’t say that somebody is entering the real world unless you are implying that the world they were in before was not metaphorically “real”. How is being a professional athlete for 20 years and competing at a high level not the “real world”? And another thing. These people should issue a public apology to Jenny. They trashed her over the years for no good reason and she still showed them by proving she was the most accomplished American distance runner at one time. She took all the Letsrun hatred and defied the odds anyway. So way to be on the wrong side of history. Jenny is an American hero and deserves this job even if all she has to do is do some promotions, a little PR, and smile at the camera. She is amazing.
