Unfortunately because of the huge doping problem in African distance running 2:07 is seen as being 'slow'. In 90% of nations he would be a top 10 performer. Ban Kenyan now. Get rid of the European coaches and managers who are obviously a mafia style problem. Hold prize money. Suspend licenses for coaches and managers for repeated offenses.

I'm simply skeptical of things stated without basis, e.g. Canova thinking that testoserone could probably be a PED for the marathon.
I'm also wondering if these onetime use anonymous unregistered handles trolling me in recent threads are more than one poster just trying to look more numerous.
But if anyone has any substantial information about testosterone improving marathon performance, I remain interested in it.

Bad advice from whom? They aren't taking them for medical needs or they would get a TUE. And they wouldn't be running 2:07 marathons if they had health issues.
Yeah, he sure was right that top kenyans dont dope because it doesn't even benefit them.
Its beginning to look like kenyans at all levels are doping,and probably ethiopians and ugandans too. Back in the 90's they were seen as "natural "but that ship sure sailed......or sank.
It now looks like Americans are today's equivalent of what Kenya was in the sport.

We aren't bedfellows. It escapes you that we are at completely opposed positions on doping. You have to be on one side or the other, that doping is either a serious issue in the sport or it isn't. So where are you?

No it actually explains how PEDs + all the recent advances (shoes, nutrition, pacers, fast courses, etc.) = faster times today. PEDs helped those runners to those times during that era. Now there are legal enhancers that make for faster times. It's not as simple as looking at fast times now & trying to compare them to a completely different period.

Maybe from some combination of his coach, agent, sponsor, doctor, pharmacist, fellow athletes, forums on the internet, etc. Hard to say.
And who knows, with better training under a better coach, he might have run faster.
More suggestions: accidental ingestion from supplements, unlabelled contamination of prescribed medication, or eating meat from steroid-injected animals.
