RunnerSpace and (briefly) flotrack mentioned this as the high school record. I thought pro athletes don’t count towards it or is there something I’m missing here?

It's the high school record like how Knighton's 19.49 is also the high school record. They are/were both in high school. However, no official prep sports media outlet or organization will recognize it as such because they are signed professionals.

It’s not an Interscholastic record, but it is the fastest HS 800 (indoors).
Thr Donnie nut-huggers down voting you for that is weird. Cooper is very smooth through all parts of his race like Kipketer who would remain smooth to the finish too. Donnie, Bryce, Hoey and the rest really look tight over the last 100 when they race. Outdoor Nats are gonna be fun to watch.
Pretty sure the down votes are for the stupid view he should have gone to the 1500. As if that would have been better for his injuries and the world champion wasn't a true 800.runner. sure. He doesn't really Bob his head though, what you're seeing is the recoil from massive force put into the ground.
I kind’a think he should have given the 1500 some more tries. He seemed a bit tapped out at 800. As for his head bobbing, it was big time when he won the won the WC in that AR, great race, red lining that last 250. With his lower mileage approach he had a lot of room to go in the 1500. He was never going to be another Rudisha.
If he had a pacer through 600 meters, he would’ve gotten close. That was an outstanding opener.
Anyone know if he is planning to run the world championships this year, because that is quite far off and will probably necessitate two peaks? Lutkenhaus seems poised to prove that last year was no fluke.
So, from the mixed zone convo that is the goal but he’s taking it one step at a time. Yes he’s planning on USAs and his goal is to stay healthy through then. This years unusually stacked for a USAs probably with potentially Brazier, Hoppel and Hoey with only 2 spots. But I get the vibe the only reason he’s not saying “yes, absolutely” is he wants to make sure he’s not getting ahead of himself. Tough team to make vs guys he respects and looks up to.
There’s also a wild card for who wins the indoor world tour in the 800. But the max score is 30 points. 3 wins. It’s unclear to me what happens with a tie
Last year at this time Cooper finished 6th in 1:46:8, while this year he solos a 1:45.2 that obviously could have been significantly faster. Very impressive.
