What a relief! Hopefully that money can go towards academics expenses and improving the research at UCLA. UCLA was targeted by the administration and brilliant faculty like Terrence Tao got their grants cut. Other UCs should follow suit, especially Berkeley.

Why would Terrence Tao need grant money? How much do pencils and chalk cost?
The fact that many posts in this thread are being deleted for no reason points to one individual being involved in this thread. This individual has every post about him deleted. You can't even make a post about his upcoming (allegedly) pro group.
As we all knew, UCLA is not dropping track and field.
End of story.
I think everyone was wonder why someone like Johnny Gray posted saying that UCLA’s TF / XC was in jeopardy. There is no conspiracy , it’s a honest question.
The original source is Clim Jackson himself. He posted a screenshot of a text message on Facebook claiming:
“The UCLA Athletic Department is considering dropping the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field program, due to funding.”
He did not identify who the text was from.
Johnny Gray then reposted Clim’s post. Because Johnny Gray is a respected figure in track & field and a former UCLA coach, his repost gave the claim visibility and perceived credibility, even though he was simply resharing the same screenshot.
Unfortunately, this idea has been speculated about for several years. Budget pressure at UCLA and within the UC system has fueled recurring rumors about Olympic-sport cuts, including track & field and cross country.

Clim is a former Bruin from the 1970s. He’s an alum, and it seems the post was based on an unattributed text screenshot. This looks less like insider information and more like an alumnus reacting out of concern that his alma mater might eventually cut Track & Field, something that, unfortunately, has been speculated about for years. Concern is understandable. Let’s not point fingers here!
there are budget issues at all universities... some more than others and yes, non-revenue sports will be the first to go.
that said, T&F is not getting dropped at UCLA. other schools, maybe. but not UCLA
Fair point and to be clear, I’m not trying to stir up misinformation. I’m just sharing what I’m genuinely hearing. I sincerely hope it’s wrong. That said, multiple people saying this are connected and alumni, which makes it hard to dismiss outright. I don’t see why they’d fabricate something like this. Still, until there’s official confirmation, it’s speculation and hopefully speculation that turns out to be incorrect.
WLA is the most contented, fougth over area in the world. The Olys are coming back, World Cup, Lakes rebuidling, Dodgers going for a 3rd, USC FB replacing the Choke Master Lincoln Riley; ESPN West, Fox Sports, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, CNN Headquaters, Tik Tok R&D. Each of those wants to build an Olympic Park at Westwood VA, Behind WLA JC, SMO Santa Monica Airport, Inglewood District, La Cienega or Malibu. In the 80s companies empowered by Mini-Computer revolution left L.A. for the boonies. After 40 years they've decided the boonies is nice, yet the've all moved back to L.A. where it all began. The Billion dollar Nike Icon TV, Film, Stagecraft, Photography Studios opened in 2020 and is the world's flagship creative, branding, and marketing center for the Sports Apparel industry. UCLA is in the middle of the riot.

UCLA is never going to cut track. They get so many donations from their former track athletes that it makes no sense to cut it. They should be able to get $200,000 per year EASY in donations from alums. That's a conservative number.
I agree, seems like most of the sports at UCLA are in shambles. Their football team/attendance is a laughing stock. Don't know how hard it would be to put together competitive sports teams at UCLA of all places.
UCLA does not care about sports, it does not need to! They are one of the most applied to universities in the world.
honestly outside of some small windows they have never cared about sports. In the modern NCAA they have only been competitive at a few things (softball, soccer etc). Back in the 70s the junior colleges in LA had better sports than UCLA!!!
They could easily cut track, they will never have an on campus stadium for football. They have no room to add facilities and overall they do not care about sports

The Athletic Director at UCLA does not need to care about sports? seems like that's his job?

I’ll chime in here. As an alum we are all waiting for them current AD to get fired!
One of the problems of college T&F is if you have world class alum in certain events, there's a good chance (compared to other sports the USA excels at) that athlete might test positive which always makes their college look bad.
